After an investigation that lasted a couple of months, British police arrested a young man from the East Midlands (the region including the cities of Nottingham and Leicester) on charges of being one of the hackers who stole CIA director John Brennan's personal data and posted it online.
The suspect should be known online as Cracka and should be part of the hacker group "Crackas with Attitude" that in recent years has carried out several cyber attacks against important personalities of the world of politics and international security. The young man was arrested last Tuesday, but the news has been spread only in recent days. Il pirata informatico che lo scorso anno è riuscito a intrufolarsi nella e-mail del capo della CIA non ha utilizzato nessun tipo di malware o qualche tecnica da esperto informatico. Molto semplicemente ha telefonato a Verizon, uno dei provider statunitensi, spacciandosi per un tecnico informatico e li ha convinti a farsi consegnare i dati personali dell’indirizzo e-mail di John Brennan. He then called the e-mail manager, "forcing" him to reset the e-mail password. Once they got into the email account, it was child's play to steal all the personal data of the CIA chief and his wife. The hacker group claimed that even a "five-year-old boy could have done it."
What data was stolen from the CIA chief
The hackers posted John Brennan's address, his wife's birthday and his Social Security number online. This is only a tiny fraction of all the personal information that the group Crackas with Attitude managed to purloin from the police chief's email address. Inoltre, i ragazzi affermano di aver chiamato anche John Brennan a telefono e di averlo avvisato dell’avvenuta intrusione nel suo account.

Le poche notizie riguardanti il gruppo hacker Crackas with Attitude permettono di fare un profilo dei ragazzi: hanno un’età inferiore ai 22 anni e quasi tutti sono residenti negli Stati Uniti d’America. Oltre al capo della CIA, i pirati informatici negli ultimi anni hanno colpito anche il capo della National Intelligence James Clapper e John Holdren, uno dei consiglieri più ascoltati da Barack Obama.
