70 iPhone apps discovered that compromise user privacy

Research by Will Strafach, of Verify.ly, has exposed the vulnerability of 70 iOS apps that would allow hackers to spy on users

Imagine using your favorite apps on your iPhone or iPad while keeping hackers informed of your every move and credential. Now don't imagine it anymore, because more than 70 infected iOS apps have been discovered that were doing just that job.

They must be poor and little-known apps you might be thinking. But that's not the case because the infected apps have collected around 18 million downloads on the Apple Store. A number that greatly expands the possible victims of this hacker attack. Discovering the flaw was Will Strafach, a specialist and investigator in the field of computer security on behalf of the company Verify.ly. Among the apps that were sending information to the hackers many are for medical and financial purposes, but there are also VPN, news and browser services.

What are the infected apps present on the App Store

Strafach divided these infected apps into three different categories, which depend on the level of risk to the user. Namely, low, medium and high. The apps with a low risk level include ooVoo, ViaVideo, Snap Upload for Snapchat, Uploader Free for Snapchat and the Cheetah browser. Strafach did not provide details on the riskiest apps. What is known, however, are the numbers. There are 33 apps with a low level of risk, 24 the one with a medium level and 19 those with a high level.
