Android 11: what changes for your smartphone

Android 11 changes the way we use our smartphones, here are the six main areas in which Google's new mobile operating system has improved the most

Android 11 in stable version was released by Google on September 8, 2020 and is immediately available for all Pixel smartphones, from Pixel 2 onwards, on which it has brought numerous new features. The update of non-Google smartphones to Android 11 will be gradual and staggered over time, but will arrive earlier than usual because this year Google has collaborated more with major electronics brands.

The new version of the mobile operating system introduces new features in six main areas: conversations, content capture, artificial intelligence, accessibility, control of other devices and privacy and security. Android 11 will also soon make it possible for a large number of smartphones to use Android Auto Wireless.

Android 11: screenshot e screen recording

Voice Access is increasingly integrated with Google Assistant and, as a result, can do many more things both on the device and on other devices connected to the Google Home app.

Android 11: smart devices

With Android 11, we just need to hold down the power button (the one we already use for Google Pay) to control all the smart devices we have associated with Google Home. From this screen, then, we can control the lights, thermostats and launch routines.

In the notification area, however, comes the media player to control the current playback in the apps we are using. This way, you no longer need to enter the app to change tracks or vary the volume.

Android 11: privacy and security

One thing everyone will notice after receiving Android 11 is the different management of privacy and permissions granted to apps. Now Android notifies us every time an app accesses some permission for no apparent reason (especially if it's in the background).

On Android 11 we can adjust the permissions granted even more finely: once, forever, never.

Android Auto Wireless with Android 11

Another new feature that will please many: all smartphones with Android 11 will be able to use Android Auto Wireless, i.e. wirelessly connect your smartphone to your car and use apps from the car's infotainment system.

Android 11: on which devices is coming

Android 11 stable is currently only available on Google Pixel. Some smartphones, such as the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, can get it right away via the OxygenOS 11 Open Beta. But it's not the stable version of Android 11, although it's already a very good beta.

The list of smartphones that will gradually receive Android 11 via their manufacturers' GUIs can be found here.
