The final version of Android 12 is official. The new features are many, but Google has limited itself to tell them, because Android 12 is still not even on the Pixel
After a long journey that began in late March with the first betas, ie the initial releases and incomplete for developers not suitable for everyday use, Android 12 has finally been made official by Google. The system, however, for the first time will not be available immediately even for Google Pixel phones, so to see it in action will have to wait a few more days.
A wait that, however, should be repaid by the many innovations that Google has reserved for Android 12. It must be said that, as usual, the new features announced by Google will not necessarily affect all Android smartphones on the market that will receive it: the products of Samsung, Xiaomi or Realme - are examples, to list them all the list would be very long - have custom user interfaces, so in many cases they will do without the new design that Google has thought for Android 12 to make room for aesthetic solutions chosen by individual manufacturers. The less visible new features of Android 12, such as those concerning privacy, should arrive on all smartphones that will receive Android 12.
Android 12, what changes
First of all the macroscopic novelties, then the Material You, that is the new Google's stylistic philosophy, the redesigned widgets and notifications. They are only three components, but they are also the ones you use the most in your daily life, so the novelties designed for them, more and less important, will be there for everyone to see. Certainly of all those who have a Google Pixel (third generation and later).
Then Android 12 receives some news so to speak minor, that is a little less obvious to the eye, but no less important. For example, the gain in speed and efficiency that Google estimates at 22% in terms of reducing the effort for the chip in maintaining the basic services of the system (which should have positive implications for the autonomy) and in several other aspects.
Another set of privacy-related innovations with a crackdown on apps that, for example, may be given a rough indication of our location, or the new entry in the settings that gives a clear indication of which apps have made use of the microphone, camera and location, or even indicators that signal in real time when an app is using those three components.
Android 12, when it arrives
As anticipated, for the first time not even the Pixel smartphones produced by Google will have Android 12 right after the official release. On what we can define an anomaly compared to the recent past we can make many assumptions, but in the absence of an official reason from Google none is more valid than others.
Google has limited itself to say that Android 12 will arrive in the coming weeks, but it is very likely that the actual availability will arrive in conjunction with the debut of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which according to the most credible rumors should be presented on October 19 and marketed on October 28. Google also said that Android 12 will be the focus of the Android Dev Summit scheduled for October 27-28.
