Android Auto available on new cars: which models

Android Auto wireless has also been released for some BMW models. Here's what they are and how it works

Android Auto wireless finally arrives on some BMW models. The news was announced by the colleagues of Android Police, where by chance a member of the editorial staff, after taking the car to an authorized garage, found himself with the Android Auto update in the infotainment system. The arrival had already been announced in previous months, but a precise date was never given: it was rumored that it could arrive in July, but there was no certainty.

Thanks to this new update, owners of some cars of the German brand will finally be able to use Android Auto wirelessly and control some features of the infotainment system directly from their smartphone.

Android Auto arriva sulle auto BMW: i modelli supportati

  • BMW Series 5 2020
  • BMW Series 7 2020
  • BMW Series 8 2019
  • BMW X3 2020 con Live Cockpit Professional
  • BMW X4 2020 con Live Cockpit Professional
  • BMW X5 2019
  • BMW X6 2020
  • BMW X7 2019
  • BMW Z4 2019.

As mentioned, the update can only be installed in official garages.

The requirements, however, do not end there. In fact, Android Auto wireless is not compatible with all Android smartphones, but only with some: Nexus, Pixel and Samsung (not all of them).

The Android Police journalist also thoroughly tested this first version of Android Auto for BMW cars and noticed more than a few bugs and malfunctions: Spotify has problems with track changing and the same happens with playing particular content. These are bugs that don't affect the user experience and will surely be fixed soon.
