The Taiwanese company enters the world of mobile gaming with the most powerful smartphone ever. Thanks to enhanced chips and advanced cooling systems
The gaming smartphone market is gaining in importance and manufacturers are starting to make devices optimized for running video games. The first was Razer, followed closely by Chinese Xiaomi and Nubia. And now Asus, one of the leading brands when it comes to gaming computers, has also been added to the list.
And using the same brand - ROG, acronym of Republic of Gamers - the Taiwanese manufacturer presents (a bit of a surprise) its first gaming smartphone. The starting base is that of the Asus Zenfone 5, presented during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2018, but the technicians of the house Taiwanese have worked hard to create the most powerful smartphone ever. Thus was born the Asus ROG, the smartphone for video games with top-of-the-line features and a set of accessories to make the best of consoles envious.

As mentioned, the starting point from which the engineers Taiwanese have taken off is that, already good, of the Asus Zenfone 5. Good but still not enough to make a gaming smartphone that can compete with the Razer Phone and be able to "grind" any application given to him. Gli ingegneri hanno così deciso di potenziare ulteriormente l’hardware e i sistemi di dissipazione del calore, per dare vita a quello che è lo smartphone più potente mai realizzato sinora.
Un primato lampante, a leggere le caratteristiche tecniche dell’Asus ROG. Sotto lo schermo OLED da 6 pollici con risoluzione 2160×1080 pixel trovano spazio un processore Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 potenziato rispetto alla versione “base”, acceleratore grafico Adreno 630, 8 gigabyte di RAM e 128 gigabyte di spazio d’archiviazione (o 512 gigabyte a seconda della versione che si sceglie). Non manca la connettività Wi-Fi a banda ultralarga, il Bluetooth 5.0 e tutti i vari sensori di movimento. Ad alimentare il tutto, una generosa batteria da 4.000 mAh.

Ottimizzazione software Asus ROG
Il lavoro dei tecnici taiwanesi non si è limitato alla sola scheda tecnica. L’ottimizzazione ha riguardato anche il sistema operativo e le altre componenti software necessarie per il funzionamento del dispositivo. Per evitare di consumare troppo in fretta la batteria, gli sviluppatori hanno realizzato una doppia modalità di funzionamento: “normale” e X Mode, che disattiva tutti i processi non necessari al gaming e, nell’allocazione delle risorse, dà priorità ai videogame rispetto alle altre funzionalità e app. Per passare da una modalità all’altra è sufficiente schiacciare i bordi del telefono (una gesture mutuata dagli ultimi HTC): l’Asus ROG cambierà “faccia” e da blu passerà a un rosso acceso.
Accessori Asus ROG
Il progetto Asus ROG non poteva ritenersi completo senza un’adeguata collezione di accessori. In concomitanza con la presentazione dello smartphone, infatti, sono stati svelati anche joypad e altri accessori che miglioreranno l’esperienza videoludica. C’è, come già detto, il “solito” joypad, che aggiunge le leve analogiche, i tasti direzionali e quattro tasti funzione a quelli già presenti sull’interfaccia del dispositivo. Il gamepad, inoltre, è dotato di connettività WiGig, così da poter trasmettere “in diretta streaming” sul televisore del salotto.

Uno degli accessori dell’Asus ROG
Un secondo accessorio è chiamato TwinView Dock, una sorta di custodia con chiusura a conchiglia, dotata di uno schermo secondario e un sistema di raffreddamento avanzato. L’idea del produttore taiwanese è che gli utenti utilizzino il TwinView Dock per sessioni prolungate di gioco, favorite anche dalla batteria supplementare da 6.000 mAh che migliora ulteriormente l’autonomia del dispositivo.
Infine, Asus ha realizzato anche un dock da collegare a uno schermo per trasformare l’Asus ROG in uno pseudo-computer e giocare seduti alla scrivania con il supporto di mouse e tastiera.
