Cops – Una banda di poliziotti: the funny characters of the Sky series

The funny comedy directed by Luca Miniero lands on Sky and streaming on NOW TV. The all-Italian cast is ready to conquer the audience. Here are the details

Cops - Una banda di poliziotti is the new Sky Original TV series featuring an all-Italian cast: from Claudio Bisio to Pietro Sermonti, via Giulia Bevilacqua and Stefania Rocca. Each actor plays a funny, ironic character with a well-marked personality.

Surely this is the main aspect of a series that is preparing to conquer the audience of the platform on demand. The comedy is directed by Luca Miniero, director of other successful films such as Benvenuti al Sud, until the last Attenti al Gorilla (2019). The first episode aired on Monday, December 14, while the second is expected on December 21. It will be broadcast on Sky but can be watched by streaming on NOW TV. In addition, it will be usable in 4K HDR with Sky Q. The idea is inspired by the Swedish series Kops but the story is set in Italy and has been adapted to our culture and reality. In fact, some parts are completely detached from the original plot. What characterizes the series, however, is certainly a talented and well-blended cast.

Cops - Una banda di poliziotti: la trama

The TV series is about the arrival of the new commissioner Cinardi (Claudio Bisio) from Northern Italy in the town of Apulia, in Puglia. In the village of Apulia for 20 years there are no crimes and the policemen are very relaxed. Cinardi wants to spend the few months that separate him from his retirement in peace and quiet.

The calm is broken by the arrival of Dr. Margherita Nardelli (Stefania Rocca) sent by the Ministry to dismantle the police station and send them to other parts of Italy where they are needed more. To prevent this, the policemen begin to stage crimes in Apulia. This apparent calm, however, reveals a disturbing backstory: Apulia could be the country where a very dangerous fugitive is hiding.

Cops - Una banda di poliziotti: i personaggi

As mentioned, the strength of the TV series lies also in the association between the actor and the character. Claudio Bisio is the commissioner Valerio Cinardi. The actor also participated in the writing of the program and has already collaborated with the director so he is perfectly at ease with his character and for the first time in his acting career he wears a uniform.

Stefania Rocca is Margherita Nardelli, a strict official, sent by the Ministry to fire the policemen of Apulia. The actress commented on her experience in the series as follows:

"Margherita Nardelli is the disturbing element, I had fun breaking the balance that these policemen had before she arrived, to bring rules and disturb their habits, from eating in the office to dozing off during the day. Her job in the end is to get them to become real cops."

Pietro Sermonti is Nicola O'Sicc, the Skinny. The actor proves once again that he has a real talent in comedy. Then there is Francesco Mandelli as Benny The Cop who is the classic fanatical cop, with a visceral love for the uniform and weapons, thanks to his passion for American and British crime series. He thinks he's in the Bronx but instead he works in Apulia. Giulia Bevilacqua is Maria Crocifissa, wife of Nicola O'Sicc. The actress described her character as follows:

"Maria Crocifissa would really like to be a policewoman like Margherita, but she just can't do it. She is perhaps one of the characters who takes herself most seriously, but she doesn't have the skills she would like. However, I found her authority amusing, the fact that she knows how to get things done, she is quite direct, strong and makes people laugh, even if she is a bit mean at times. She hates and loves this husband she has chosen for herself, fat and inept, who doesn't take any responsibility."

The cast also includes Dino Abbrescia (as Tonino), Guglielmo Poggi (Tommaso Guerra), Giovanni Esposito (Anaconda).

The TV series is very promising and there will definitely be a sequel. All that's left to do is catch up on the first episode and wait for the second one scheduled for December 21, both on NOW TV and Sky Q.
