Galaxy Note 8, dual rear cameras and SPen

The Galaxy Note 8 has been officially unveiled: 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. On sale from September 15 at 999 euros

The Galaxy Note 8 has arrived. After months of rumors and indiscretions, Samsung has finally taken the veil off its new top-of-the-line phablet. The Note series is certainly the most iconic of the Korean company and has always represented the best of what smartphones can offer, even after the Note 7 affaire.

From the conference organized in New York, Samsung has presented all the features and functionality of the Galaxy Note 8. Most of them had been anticipated by the rumors of the last days, but the South Korean company has been good at hiding some features that will make the Galaxy Note 8 a very interesting smartphone indeed. Starting from the design, completely different from the old version and very similar to what we've already seen with the Galaxy S8: bezel-less display that occupies most of the front of the device.

But there is no lack of the distinctive feature typical of the Note series: the SPen. The stylus will once again be present inside the smartphone and can be used to do even more things. In addition to top of the range features (and it could not be otherwise), the Note 8 is the first Samsung smartphone to mount a dual rear camera, which will allow you to take pictures with bokeh effect and wide-angle photos. The device is already available for pre-order (with gift attached) and will hit the market on September 15 at a base price of 999 euros.

Technical specifications Galaxy Note 8

One of the recognizable signs of the Note series has always been the very large screen. And the Galaxy Note 8 is no different. The phablet mounts the new Infinity Display, the same screen found on the Galaxy S8 and offering very thin top and bottom bezels. Samsung assures that despite the rather large size, the ergonomics of the smartphone will not be affected. The Galaxy Note 8 mounts a 6.3-inch Infinity Display with a QuadHD resolution of 2960×1440 pixels (the image format is 18.5:9). The display also supports special features: the Always On mode that allows you to always have time and notifications under control and Unify App that facilitates multitasking and the use of two applications simultaneously.

Under the performance profile, Samsung has opted for the best components available on the market. The Galaxy Note 8 mounts an Exynos 8895 chipset supported by 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage. The storage is expandable via a MicroSD card. The Note 8 and SPen also receive IP68 certification that protects it from dust and makes it water resistant up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. 3300 mAh battery that will be able to be charged quickly wirelessly.

Photography compartment Galaxy Note 8

The photo compartment of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 deserves a separate chapter. For the first time, the South Korean company mounts on its smartphone a dual rear camera. And the choice could only fall on the Galaxy Note 8. In the back there are two 12-megapixel sensors with OIS technology. The first lens will be wide-angle and will have an aperture of f/1.7, while the second will be a telephoto lens with an aperture of f/1.9. The two cameras will also be able to be used to take pictures with the bokeh effect, but compared to other devices that offer the same feature, the Galaxy Note 8 will take two photos, one without the blur on the background.

The front camera is 8 Megapixels and supports Smart Auto Focus technology.

How to use the SPen

The "magic" stylus typical of the Note series will also have new functions that will make it much easier to use the device. For example, it will be possible to save memos, even if the screen is off: just write on the display and the smartphone will save them automatically. For lovers of smilies, Samsung has introduced the ability to draw animated emoji on the screen that will be delivered directly to the friend with whom you are talking. In addition, by bringing the SPen close to foreign words, the smartphone will automatically show the Italian translation.

Bixby and DeX

The Galaxy Note 8 will also integrate Bixby, the personal assistant developed by Samsung and available since yesterday in over 200 countries, including Italy (although for the moment it only supports English). As already seen with the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Note 8 will also be able to be used with DeX, the dock station that allows you to connect the smartphone to a monitor or TV with HDMI input. The phablet is thus transformed into a sort of laptop replacement: connecting it to the DeX you can read and answer emails, draft documents, edit images and much more. In short, the functions of a laptop enclosed in a smartphone.

User security

Samsung also thought about the security of users' personal data and added new ways to unlock the smartphone. In addition to the fingerprint reader (present at the back), the Galaxy Note 8 will also have an iris scanning sensor and face recognition. The smartphone, on the other hand, will be protected by the Samsung Knox system.
