Guardia di Finanza, Operation Odyssey 3: 41 pirate sites closed down

The Special Units of the GdF have carried out a new operation against online piracy: forty-one sites broadcasting films and sports have been closed down

The investigative activity of the Guardia di Finanza aimed at stopping the illegal diffusion of copyright protected content continues. After having carried out the Odyssey 2 operation that allowed to close 50 pirate sites, the Special Units of the Guardia di Finanza are carrying out the Odyssey 3 operation.

Thanks to the investigative activity of the GdF men, it was possible to trace other forty-one sites that illegally transmitted films, TV series and sport events. The catalog of films was continuously updated with the latest films released at the cinema, while as far as sporting events were concerned, the forty-one pirate sites transmitted live the matches of the Serie A, the main European leagues, the Champions League, the Europa League and the most important tennis tournaments such as Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Illegal sites have been seized and obscured, and the owners accused of having violated article 171 of the law 633/41.

The risks of online piracy

In addition to damaging a sector that is very important for the Italian economy and that in recent years has been going through a difficult period, also due to online piracy, illegal sites are a danger for one's own devices. Clicking on fake "Play" buttons hides links that lead to malicious sites that automatically download viruses, malware and trojans that infect your computer, tablet or smartphone.

These sites are also a danger to your devices.
