‘Heavy’ fidelity audio, 2,000 euros for concrete wireless speaker

Master & Dynamic introduces MA770 - a multiroom speaker - and goes hard, not only with the price, but with an unusual material in the audio industry

Whoever plans to enter the highly competitive multiroom speaker market today, must do so with a certain style. And that's exactly what Master & Dynamic has done with the new MA770 wireless system, wowing everyone with a sleek object made from a concrete composite. Yes, made of concrete.

The MA770 speakers look like a work of art, and not surprisingly, since they were designed by Sir David Adjaye, a Ghanaian architect naturalized British who designed, just to name a few, the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.

Not just concrete

While the concrete is certainly the most innovative element of the Master & Dynamic MA770 speakers - which cost just under 2 thousand euros in pre-order - one should not forget all the other components dedicated to sound. The speaker, in fact, features two 4-inch woofers covered with a Kevlar fabric (for low frequencies), a 1.5-inch titanium tweeter (for high frequencies) and a set of diamond anodized aluminum controls. A steel grille - magnetically attached to the front of the speaker - is easily removable for those who prefer a look with the components and concrete in plain sight. A 100W Class D three-channel amplifier is featured. The speaker also can be used on its own or in a stereo or multi-room setup thanks to the built-in Chromecast support. The other connection options present are a 3.5mm audio jack, optical, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1.

If you're wondering how much one of these Master & Dynamic MA770 weighs, here you go: 16 kg for a size of 410 x 510 x 245 mm.
