How to make the SPID free online

The Digital Identity System allows access to Public Administration services with a single pair of credentials. Here's how to request it

As part of the initiatives and projects for the digitalization of the Public Administration (and the relationship between PA and citizen), the Digital Italy Agency launched SPID in December 2015. An acronym for Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale (Public Digital Identity System), it is an authentication system that allows citizens to interface directly, and securely, with accredited Public Administration entities.

But what is SPID? In fact, it takes the form of a username and password that citizens can use to login to a PA portal. In short, a bit like the credentials we use to enter our email inbox or social account, but with a unique value on dozens and dozens of sites. The SPID credentials, however, are uniquely linked to our personal and personal data, so that we can be identified in a certain way and "addressed" to the services addressed to us.

What is the SPID for

In short, the SPID allows access to all services of the Public Administration using a single pair of credentials. In the long run, therefore, the Digital Identity System should replace all other access modes currently active. With the same SPID, for example, you will be able to access the reserved area of your municipality or region, the MyINPS area (instead of using the PIN that is sent by mail), the INAIL site, the Revenue Agency site, the portal for Bonus Teachers and Bonus culture, the reserved areas of the various territorial ASL and many others.

Differenze SPID livello 1, SPID livello 2, SPID livello 3

  • Un indirizzo di posta elettronica;
  • Un numero di telefono cellulare;
  • Codice fiscale/tessera sanitaria

The services offered by the 9 "identity providers" are similar, but not identical: some offer higher levels of security, others provide costs for recognition operations.

To make the SPID will be sufficient to choose the service provider that best suits your needs (here the complete list) and follow the guided procedure. You will be asked to enter your personal data (name, surname, date and municipality of birth, document details and tax code), to create SPID credentials and then to move on to the recognition phase. We may be asked to make a video recording with PC or smartphone or to make a video call with one of the operators of the chosen company. In some cases, the recognition can also take place in person, with a representative who goes to our home.

How to use the SPID

Once created, the SPID credentials can be used to authenticate on the website of INPS, INAIL or the body you prefer. It will not always be necessary to enter the username and password chosen during registration: some identity providers, for example, allow you to login by scanning a QR code through their app.
