How to rid Windows 10 of useless programs

Windows 10 brings with it a load of completely useless apps that only take up memory. Here's what they are and how to get rid of them

Windows 10 is undoubtedly a good operating system, despite the numerous problems that pop up with almost every update. However, like all Windows operating systems and perhaps even more than its predecessors, Windows 10 brings with it a large amount of programs that for most users are literally useless.

These programs are often referred to as "bloatware", a term derived from the verb "bloat" which means "to inflate" in English. And indeed, these software do nothing but bloat and unnecessarily weigh down Windows 10. So they can be removed without a problem, so that the operating system is lighter, takes up less disk space and there are fewer apps crowding the Start menu. Giving up apps like Candy Crush, on the other hand, isn't that much of a sacrifice for most Windows 10 users.

How to uninstall useless programs on Windows 10

To relieve Windows of useless programs, the most effective thing is to uninstall them altogether. To do this, just look for "Add or Remove Programs" in the Start menu and open the "Apps and Features" screen: here we'll find all the applications currently installed on our computer, listed in alphabetical order. Let's take the time to check them one by one, removing the unnecessary ones. If the app we want to delete is present in the Start menu but we don't find it in "Apps & Features", then we can delete it in another way: right-click on it directly from inside the menu and then choose More > App Settings.

Disable Start Menu Hints

After deleting all the unnecessary apps, you'll have a much more streamlined and readable Start Menu. But we can do even more, eliminating the "suggestions" that Microsoft inserts in the Start menu, which are nothing more than advertisements for apps that serve no purpose. To eliminate the suggestions we have to go to Settings > Personalization and, in the left column choose "Start".

Deleting Live Tiles from the Start Menu

The last thing we need to do to clean up Windwos 10, and especially the Start Menu, is to remove the Live Tiles, those "tiles" of various sizes and colors that appear inside the menu. Unfortunately we'll have to remove them one by one, right-clicking on them and choosing "Remove from Start". It's a bit tedious, but it's worth it.
