Since 2018, Apple has introduced dual SIM on board the apple phones as well. The second card, however, is virtual and needs to be activated by the user. Here's how to do it
Probably, this is one of the most interesting new features introduced by Apple on the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr. After years of pressing requests from users, even Apple has "bowed" to the trend of dual SIM smartphones, introducing the novelty (precisely) in its 2018 flagship devices.
Unlike other manufacturers, however, the Cupertino-based company has opted for a "mixed" dual SIM: the main card will be physical (in nanoSIM format), while the secondary card comes in the form of eSIM. In this way, Apple has saved space inside its applephones, but prevented users from freely purchasing another phone card and inserting it inside the device. Come impostare dual SIM su iPhone Xs e iPhone Xr
Prima di tutto, per attivare la dual SIM è necessario avere un iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max o un iPhone Xr aggiornato a iOS 12.1. Con questa versione del sistema operativo mobile, infatti, Apple ha attivato il supporto al dual SIM, rendendo disponibili le voci per attivare o disattivare la funzionalità dalle Impostazioni del telefono. Dopo aver verificato che iOS sia aggiornato, potrete passare all’attivazione del dual SIM su iPhone.
Per impostare dual SIM su iPhone compatibili avrai tre differenti possibilità: tramite codice QR, dall’app dell’operatore o manualmente. Vediamo in dettaglio come fare.
- Attivare dual SIM con codice QR. Accedi alle Impostazioni del telefono, pigia su Cellulare e poi su Aggiungi piano cellulare. A questo punto si dovrebbe attivare la fotocamera posteriore dell’iPhone: inquadra il codice QR presente sul foglio consegnatoti dal tuo operatore e attendi che si completi la configurazione automatica
- Attivare dual SIM con l’app dell’operatore. Se già non l’avessi fatto, scarica l’app dell’operatore che offre piani eSIM nel tuo Paese, entra al suo interno e sottoscrivi un nuovo piano tariffario compatibile. Dopo l’acquisto, dovresti poter impostare dual SIM direttamente dall’app. Se non riesci a trovare i comandi, contatta l’assistenza clienti del tuo operatore
- Attivare dual SIM manualmente. In case your carrier provides you with written instructions instead of the QR code, just tap on Enter details manually at the end of the iPhone screen
ESIM Operators in Italy
Just read the FAQ page on Apple's website to understand that in Italy there is no operator ready to offer dual SIM support. Some details, however, give hope for an arrival of the feature in early 2019. First of all, the FAQ page is translated into Italian, a sign that the Cupertino company has an interest in providing information to users about this feature. Then, starting this year, Vodafone has activated a pricing plan for the Apple Watch Series 4's eSIM card. This availability suggests that the British phone operator may do the same thing for iPhones and, like it, the other operators active in our country.
