From October 28 to November 3, Paris hosts the last Masters 1000 of the season. On the concrete courts of the French capital are decided the last tennis players who will participate in the ATP Finals in London 2019. And there are also two Italians in contention: Fabio Fognini and Matteo Berrettini.
The Roman tennis player occupies the eighth position in the annual ranking, the last one useful to qualify for the London tournament. But to be sure of making it to London he must reach at least the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters 1000, or hope that Bautista Agut, Monfils and Fognini do worse than him. The main draw of the Paris Masters 1000 features all the top 10 in the world rankings. Djokovic returns to play a tournament after his defeat at the US Open and Nadal also returns to play after winning the Grand Slam tournament. Paris 1000 Masters: the Italian draw
There are only two Italians in the draw of the Paris 1000 Masters: Berrettini (new number 9 in the world rankings) and Fognini. The two Italians are in the running to qualify for the ATP Finals in London and need to get as far as possible in the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 to have any chance of flying to the English capital.
The draw for the two Italians is not the easiest. Both got a bye in the first round and will start directly from the second. In the second round Berrettini will have to face one between Tsonga and Rublev, two strong opponents who will make life difficult for the Roman tennis player. In the third round, eventually, he will face the Russian Khachanov and in the quarters Rafael Nadal.
Fognini, instead, will face in the second round one between the Canadian Shapovalov and the French Simon. In the third round he should find Zverev and in a possible quarter-final Roger Federer. A very difficult draw, since the second round.
