Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro unveiled: official specs and price

The Chinese company is about to launch on the market its two new top-of-the-line smartphones: long battery life, three rear cameras and 7nm processor

They are still two weeks away from their official presentation, but of the Huawei Mate 20 and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro we know practically everything. Thanks to the many rumors and anticipations that have come out in the past weeks and days, which have allowed us to unveil and make official every detail of the two phablets.

The latest previews have allowed us to discover exactly all the technical features of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20, starting from the SoC Kirin 980 with 7 nanometer production technology up to the triple rear camera, passing through the three biometric unlock modes, the ultra-fast charging batteries and the various uses that will be made of artificial intelligence (the processor, in fact, will be supported by neural computing units, which will speed up the execution of AI algorithms). The last roundup of rumors, finally, also allowed us to discover the Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 price: as expected, they will be very similar (although lower) to those of the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max.

Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro: technical specifications

The Mate 20 Pro comes with a 6.9-inch curved OLED screen that supports Quad HD + resolution, while the Mate 20 features a 6.53-inch LCD display with FHD + resolution. Both devices will run on 7nm Kirin processor, the first of its kind in the world. The Mate 20 will have 4GB of RAM while the Mate 20 Pro will have 6GB. Both models will have 128GB of built-in storage, and a unlike Huawei's recent flagship phones, the upcoming Mate 20 will support expandable storage. However, not with the classic microSD but with nanoSD cards, which will be able to expand the storage up to 256GB. Both of the Chinese company's two flagship phones will run Android 9 Pie customized with the EMUI 9.0 GUI. Both the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery as announced at the beginning is really huge: 4,200mAh on the Mate 20 Pro and 4,000mAh on the Mate 20. The phone also features fast charging that allows in 30 minutes to charge the device up to 70%. As mentioned, the Mate 20 Pro will feature a triple unlock mode: facial with 3D scanner mounted on the front; fingerprint reader drowned in the screen and voice unlock, made possible by the exclusive BoneID technology, capable of recognizing the user's voice even in noisy environments.

Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro: photo compartment

Both models have a 24-megapixel front-facing camera equipped with various functions for selfies. On the back, however, we find a dual sensor on the Huawei Mate 20 and a triple sensor to form a square (the three sensors plus the LED Flash) on the Mate 20 Pro. However, Huawei's choice is different from its most popular triple camera, namely the one seen on the P20 Pro. Instead of the telephoto lens on Huawei Mate 20 Pro we find an ultra wide-angle sensor. In addition, both models are equipped with AI Smart Zoom, a technology can detect moving objects and automatically focus on them in the shots.

Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro:

In Europe and Italy, Huawei's two flagship models should start being sold around the last weeks of October 2018. The price of the Mate 20 is around 840 euros while the Mate 20 Pro will cost around 1,100 euros.
