Huawei P40 official: seven cameras to challenge Galaxy S20 and iPhone 11

Huawei has launched the new P40 smartphone family. Three models available with a price starting from 799.90 euros. Here are the features and when they will be available in Italy

The Huawei P40 has no more secrets: the Chinese company has presented the new range of top-of-the-line smartphones for this early 2020. And for the first time, Huawei launches three models of its flagship smartphone: in addition to the P40 and P40 Pro, there is also the P40+, which differs in having five rear cameras.

The P40 smarpthone family is a big bet for Huawei: these are devices that do not have the support of Google services and bet everything on the new Huawei Mobile Services. And the lack of apps like Google Maps and Gmail, at least initially, could be felt, despite the efforts Huawei is making to bring all the most important apps to AppGallery. Huawei didn't mind half-measures: we're facing very high performance smartphones, with an interesting design, a large and very bright screen. But the most interesting feature is the photographic compartment: in the P40 Pro+ version we find five rear cameras, including two zoom sensors and a 40 megapixel wide-angle lens.

Huawei P40 and P40 Pro are already available for pre-order from today, while for the P40 Pro+ we have to wait a little longer.

Huawei P40, official features

Small, but only in shape. The Huawei P40 is the entry-level model of the new range of the Chinese company. Compact in size thanks to a 6.1-inch screen with very thin bezels and a form factor narrower than usual. The refresh rate of the display is at 60Hz. Under the shell we find the Kirin 990 chipset with 5G modem, supporting 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory expandable with NanoSD.

The Huawei P40 has "only" three rear cameras: main 50 Megapixel, ultra wide-angle 16 Megapixel and 3x optical telephoto 8 Megapixel. 32 Megapixel front camera. The photo compartment is integrated within a raised black bump, a solution already seen on the Pixel 4, the iPhone 11 and the Galaxy S20.

The battery is 3800mAh with support for fast charging at 22.5W, Fingerprint unlock is integrated into the display. The Hauwei P40 has received IP 53 certification for protection from dust and water splashes.

The Hauwei P40 Pro

With the P40 Pro you make a definite leap forward and enter the field of premium smartphones. The device has everything to become one of the benchmarks in the industry. 6.58-inch OLED screen with 90 Hz refresh rate. Huawei has done a great job on optimizing the bezels, reducing them to a minimum and rounding all four sides, including the top and the front.

Under the shell we find the Kirin 990 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable via NanoSD with another 256GB. On the P40 Pro we find four rear cameras: in addition to the main 50 Megapixel camera, there is a 40 Megapixel wide-angle sensor and a telephoto periscope with 5x optical and 50x digital zoom. Finally, a ToF sensor for depth of field closes the circle. In the front hole there is a 32 Megapixel sensor and a depth sensor.

The battery is 4200mAh with fast charging at 40W. Support for wireless charging also at 40W. On board we find Android 10 with EMUI 10.1, Absent Google services replaced by Huawei Mobile Services. IP68 certification against dust and water.

Huawei P40 Pro+, technical specifications

The Huawei P40 Pro+ is an even more premium version of the previous model. From the Huawei P40 Pro takes shape and much of the data sheet. The difference is in the materials (the body is made of ceramic) and in the rear camera that has as many as five sensors. The main one is always 50 Megapixel, while the ultra wide angle 40 Megapixel, then finds space a periscope sensor 8 Megapixel with 10x optical zoom and 100x digital and another telephoto 8 Megapixel with 3x zoom. Last but not least, the ToF sensor for depth of field.

Price and Availability Huawei P40 Pro

Being a top of the range device, the launch price of the new Huawei P40 range starts from 799 euros for the base model, up to 1049 euros for the P40 Pro model. The two devices are available for pre-order now and until April 6 will be bundled with the Huawei Watch GT 2. As for the P40 Pro+, however, there is no indication of either release time or price.
