Huawei smartphones, EMUI 9.1 arrives: what’s new

Hauwei is releasing on 16 smartphones the EMUI 9.1, the new interface that brings with it many new features: improved performance and new functionality

For a few days, owners of many Huawei smartphones have received the update with EMUI 9.1. Many more will receive it by the end of July on no less than 16 Huawei (and Honor) smartphone models of all ranges. The rollout of the user interface on Huawei smartphones, then, should end shortly before Google's release of Android 10. In the meantime, the future of the relationship between Huawei and Google, currently semi-paralyzed due to the trade block imposed by the U.S. President (suspended until mid-August), should become clearer.

The version of EMUI that is installed as a result of the update is EML-L29 9.1.0.311 (C636E7R1P13), integrates the July 2019 Android security patches and the first devices that received it were the P20 and P20 Pro. The novelties of EMUI 9.1 are quite a lot, both from the performance point of view with a new Linux file system optimized for smartphones and 3D graphics acceleration for video games, and in terms of functionality and interface and user experience, simplified for many operations.

EMUI 9.1: Increased performance

With EMUI 9.1 comes the Linux file system EROFS on Huawei and Honor smartphones, which is expected to enable significantly better performance (up to 20% more) of apps and better fluidity. In addition, thanks to EROFS, it will be possible to recover up to 2 GB of storage space.

Gamers will also enjoy the extension of GPU Turbo technology to many new games, for a total of 25 titles.

EMUI 9.1: simplified interface, functionality and settings

With the new EMUI also comes new wallpapers and redesigned app icons. Huawei Vlog, meanwhile, allows you to easily edit and share videos with automatic filters, special effects and background music. Smartphones with a ToF photo sensor will also be able to use "AR measures" to measure objects framed by the camera. Huawei Share OneHop, on the other hand, allows you to instantly share notes and screen recordings between your phone and a Huawei MateBook. Le impostazioni, infine, sono state semplificate e sono ora più pratiche.
