Un calo peso ingiustificabile di quasi il 10%: cosa è successo alla PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in vendita in Giappone?

Quando i primi (pochi, a dire il vero) esemplari di PlayStation 5 sono arrivati nelle mani di chi è riuscito a comprarne una in molti si sono resi conto che le console next-gen (il discorso vale anche per Xbox Series X|S) sono dei veri e propri “bestioni“: sono grandi e grosse e, soprattutto, pesano un bel po’.
La PlayStation 5 in versione con lettore ottico, infatti, pesa ben 4,5 chili mentre quella “Digital Edition" senza lettore pesa 3,9 chili. La Xbox Series X, invece, pesa 4,44 chilogrammi mentre la Xbox Series S in confronto a tutte le altre è un peso piuma: appena 1.928 grammi, due chili scarsi. E poi c’è il caso strano della nuova PS5 Digital Edition che è stata appena messa in vendita in Giappone e che, dati ufficiali alla mano, pesa “solo" 3,6 chili. Cioè 300 grammi in meno del normale e tutti si chiedono a cosa sia dovuto questo peso inferiore: Sony ha modificato, senza dirlo, l’hardware della sua next-gen entry level? E, se lo ha fatto, quali componenti sono cambiati rispetto al modello “ufficiale“? Tutte domande che non hanno ancora una risposta ma che potranno averla presto: quando la prima PS 5 Digital Edition “light" verrà smontata per il video “tear down" ormai di rito.
La PS5 DE dimagrita
A notare la differenza di peso tra la vecchia e la nuova PlayStation Digital Edition è stato per primo il sito PSU – PlayStation Universe.

What is certain is that, in addition to the different weight, the Japanese console now also has different screws to close the case.
Why the PS5 weighs less
Premising that typographical error is always a possibility, and that therefore the real weight is identical, it must also be said that there are several ways to make a next-gen console thinner.
In fact, inside a last-generation console, a large and heavy power supply, many (huge) heat sinks and several shields to avoid electromagnetic interference are integrated. It's enough that Sony used a slightly different batch for at least one of these components for the weight difference to be justified.
But, if that's the case, you'd have to hope that the different components used have the same performance as the others: if the power supply is lighter it might be a little less powerful, if the heatsink is smaller it might not cool the chips properly.
