HDR10: What can such a TV do?

HDR is a quality standard that reflects the quality of the image that a TV can reproduce. HDR generally stands for "High Dynamic Range" and refers to the device as being particularly rich in contrast with support for a great many colors. HDR10 is a new standard where the quality is even better.

HDR10: What's behind the term

HDR10 is not yet supported by all TVs. This is simply because the standard has only been accommodated in new devices in recent years.
  1. The number 10 in HDR10 stands for the bit depth with which the contrast is regulated. Basically, a higher bit depth equals a wider range of possible colors and shades.
  2. With a bit depth of 10 compared to the usual 8, a TV can reproduce up to four times as many brightness levels.
  3. With the wide range of possible contrasts, the image can be rendered more accurately and realistically, so content on the screen is closer to the real colors.

What to consider when buying?

  1. So far, the standard is not yet supported by many devices.
  2. Market giants such as Panasonic, LG and Samsung have now installed the standard in all new devices.
