Cell Broadcast: How to disable the message

From time to time, you may receive messages on your smartphone that are sent to all users on a cellular network. If you never want to receive a Cell Broadcast message again, simply disable it.

Disable Cell Broadcast messages: Disable the messages

Cell Broadcast is a service in mobile communications, through which all subscribers of the radio network can be notified. It is still one of the current mobile standards, even though hardly any messages are sent via it in Germany. If you do not want to receive a message from Cell Broadcast, deactivate the service as follows:
  1. Open the Messages app on your smartphone.
  2. Instead of writing an SMS, tap on the top right on the three dots arranged below each other.
  3. Tap on "Settings".
  4. Among many other options, you will find the "Cell Broadcast (CB) settings" section.
  5. Uncheck "CB activation" to disable messages via Cell Broadcast.

What is CB for?

Since there are hardly any messages via Cell Broadcast in Germany so far, German users often wonder what the service is actually for. In other countries, CB is established to transmit messages that are relevant even without Internet reception. In Japan, for example, the service is used to alert people about earthquakes. In the USA, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and other countries, CB is also used to inform about other disasters and dangers.
