There is a plague that has been plaguing young Italians for years now: cyberbullying. A social phenomenon that, as recent studies show, involves an increasing number of adolescents. Victims that in some cases, unfortunately, resort to extreme gestures.
And for this reason also politics is moving. A bill dedicated to the prevention and protection of teenagers has just been approved by the Senate. The text has arrived at its fourth reading after various modifications in the two branches of Parliament. If there are no amendments or changes in the House, the text will become a law of the State (and this time there should be no problems, given that in the Senate there was only one vote against). Un passo importante per combattere un fenomeno sempre più difficile da arginare.
I numeri del cyberbullismo in Italia
Diventa quindi fondamentale l’educazione digitale anche perché, nonostante il tentativo delle istituzioni, i casi di cyberbullismo sono in aumento. Secondo infatti i dati divulgati in un seminario organizzato dalla Regione Lombardia, nel 2016 le persone colpite da cyberbullismo sono cresciute dell’8%. All’evento ha preso parte anche l’associazione Onlus Pepita, la Casa Pediatrica Ass Fatebenefratelli-Sacco e l’Ufficio Scolastico Regionale. Il seminario ha avuto come tema il sexting a scuola. Ed è proprio tra i banchi che le istituzioni sperano di fermare il fenomeno, formando le future generazioni contro l’errato utilizzo di internet e dei social network.

Cyberbullismo e sexting, due facce della stessa medaglia, come dimostrano i continui casi di cronaca. Giovani che finiscono in rete a loro insaputa e che per la vergogna arrivano anche a togliersi la vita. Al seminario ha partecipato anche il padre di Carolina, una ragazza di 14 anni che si è uccisa dopo che un suo video è stato pubblicato in rete. E purtroppo la situazione, come è emerso anche dall’evento, non è migliorata. Sono tanti infatti i giovani che ancora, nonostante gli avvertimenti, continuano a mandare foto e video hot in giro per il web, pensando che rimangano solo sui dispositivi dei destinatari. Il sexting, parola composta che indica una serie di pratiche sessuali tramite internet e soprattutto smartphone, è praticato da un giovane su quattro. Educate to combat cyberbullying
What should be done against this sad phenomenon? Never let your guard down. Educate and not only between the desks, but also at home. Even the Privacy Guarantor has intervened against cyberbullying, publishing a vademecum entitled "Privacy-proof school" aimed at institutions, families and students.
