Si allarga l’offerta di chip MediaTek per la fascia media del mercato degli smartphone: il produttore taiwanese ha infatti presentato i nuovi Helio G96 ed Helio G88. Both are SoCs intended for 4G phones, on which, however, they bring features now present only on higher-end smartphones.

In particular, these are two processors of the G series, so suitable for gaming thanks to the integration of MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, which optimizes the performance of the chip when running games. Then there is a special focus on the photographic compartment, since smartphones equipped with these processors will be able to integrate high-resolution cameras. Finally, but only applies to the G96, there is support for monitors with very high refresh rates. On closer inspection, then, MediaTek has presented two chips that seem to be really intended for smartphones for younger users. It is not known, however, on which of the next models will be used nor when they will arrive on the market.

MediaTek Helio G96: technical characteristics

Helio G96 is the new "top" of the Helio G range (which, however, is by no means the top range of MediaTek). It consists of two Cortex-A76 cores of superior performance and six Cortex-A55 energy-saving and has a maximum frequency of 2.05 GHz. THE GPU is an ARM MAli-G57 MC2, which is certainly not the fastest on the market.

Smartphones with this processor will be able to have screens with refresh rates up to 120 Hz and FHD+ resolution and will be able to handle a camera with a maximum resolution of 108 MP. Connectivity is 4G LTE (even in dual SIM) which is the fastest before 5G, and there's support for Wi-Fi 5. Finally, MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite has been integrated for gaming.

MediaTek Helio G88: technical specifications

Helio G88 is the little brother of Helio G96: it's less fast and doesn't support ultra-high refresh screens, nor 108 MP cameras.

The display can in fact have a maximum refresh of 90 Hz, while the main camera goes up to a maximum of 64 MP. It remains, however, HyperEngine 2.0 Lite for gaming.
