Milano Design Week 2017, the tech appointments not to be missed

From the camera obscura on the poetic streetcar, to the 80s virtual reality, passing by Barbie's House of Dreams. Here's what to see at Milan Design Week 2017

Art, design and also a lot of technology. The highly anticipated Milano Design Week 2017, the event that every year brings together the best of Italian creativity, will revolve around these three themes. In addition to the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, there will be space for technology as well.

The kermesse will be interesting also because it will host many appointments scattered around the city of Milan. Fuorisalone, this is the name of the program in which the outdoor events will be included, will touch different themes, including those dedicated to hi-tech. We will talk about artificial intelligence, virtual reality and much more. Here are some of the appointments not to be missed at Milano Design Week 2017.

Barbie in augmented reality

On Thursday, April 6, there will be space for an event dedicated to Barbie. On the facade of a building located in Via Como 9 will be projected Barbie's House of Dreams. An initiative realized by Gabriele Pardi of the Italian Design Agency and that consists in the projection of the interiors and exteriors of the house of the most famous doll using video mapping, a technology that makes use of augmented reality to project virtual images onto a real surface.

Milano a rovescio

Another very evocative event will be held from April 4 to 6, where a streetcar transformed into a darkroom will run through the streets of Milan from the Duomo to La Triennale. Inside the Poetic Tram Ride, through a pinhole, made by an opening, images of the city will be projected upside down, together with some excerpts from Tête-bêche, the short novel written by Liu Yichang from which the film "In the mood for love" by Wong Kar-wai is based.

Virtual Reality Meets Sculpture

From April 4 to 9, there will be an event dedicated to the Homi Smart Sculpture Experience, a virtual reality experience through which it will be possible to go back in time. Through a VR visor, it will be possible to explore the house of the German fashion designer Karl Lagerfed and admire its eighties furnishings.

Audi and artificial intelligence

In corso Venezia 11 from April 4 to 9, it will be possible to learn about Audi's artificial intelligence. The relationship between man and machine will be discussed during the two events "Future needs stories". On April 5 we will discuss the difference between "Artificial Intelligence VS Augmented Humanity". In particular, robotics, machine learning and automation will be discussed. On April 6 the debate "Science Fiction VS Science" will focus on the relationship and the difference between artificial intelligence and scenarios envisioned by writers and directors. Home automation and Internet of Things will also be discussed.

Nintendo Switch

For video game lovers, the appointment is in via Tortona 12 from April 4 to 9 at Nintendo Showcase, the event dedicated to Nintendo Switch, the latest console of the Japanese company that, if necessary, turns into a portable gaming platform. Among the many games that you can try are: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2.

The role of technology

The relationship between man, technology and nature will be discussed at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology. The event, entitled Meet the Media Guru and to be held Wednesday, April 5, will be attended mainly by Koert Van Mensvoort, Dutch artist, designer and philosopher, famous for having developed the concept of "Next Nature", an idea that considers technology as an organic element of our lives.
