Oppo, smartphone with 10X zoom unveiled in Barcelona

Before the start of the Mobile World Congress 2019, the Chinese manufacturer has anticipated what will be the technologies of its next top of the range

The Mobile World Congress 2019 has not yet officially started, but from the halls of the Barcelona Fair are already starting to filter rumors about the very first devices that will be unveiled. And, consequently, also what should be the trends in mobile for 2019 and the years to come.

Some of these we have already seen during the Galaxy Unpacked 2019 in San Francisco, while others were revealed by Oppo during an event at the Catalan capital. The Chinese manufacturer has anticipated some of the technologies that should present in the coming hours. In particular, new details have been revealed on the much talked about camera with 10X optical zoom and on the cellular connectivity of the future, that 5G that has already peeped in the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G that in June 2019 should arrive on the shelves of Italian electronics stores.

What does the 10X zoom mean

We start, however, from what will be, most likely, the biggest news in the field of photography of this 2019. For several weeks, in fact, there have been rumors about a possible smartphone camera equipped with 10x optical zoom. Rumors that now finally find confirmation in the words of the Chinese leadership. But what exactly does it mean that the next top of the range Oppo will have a camera with 10X zoom? To understand it, we need to analyze in detail the characteristics of the photo compartment of the next top of the range Oppo.

The rear photo system will consist of three sensors: the main 48-megapixel with 28-millimeter focal length; the secondary ultra-wide-angle with 16-millimeter focal length; the third telezoom with 160-millimeter focal length. Passing from the framing of the ultra-wide-angle to that of the telezoom, then you will have a 10-fold enlargement of the image, without the quality of the shot being affected in the least. A result made possible by a structure defined as a "periscope", contained in a thickness of only 6.76 mm: the thickness of the smartphone, therefore, will not be affected in the least.

The era of 5G

During the same event, the top management of Oppo have revealed that the device will be "powered" by SoC Snapdragon 855 with internal modem for 5G connectivity. Exactly like the Galaxy S10 5G, therefore, the new top of the range Oppo will be able to travel at speeds of several gigabits per second, speeds today reserved for fixed fiber optic connectivity.
