The 93rd edition of the Oscars was held a few hours ago and animated the Italian night: many viewers connected on Sky and free to air on TV8 ready to discover the winners. The Academy gave its verdict after about a month from the announcement of the nominations for the traditional 23 categories of the most important awards in the world of cinema.
Just like last year, the 2021 edition was atypical because of the anti-Covid restrictions. However, unlike what happened with the Bafta or the Golden Globes, the Oscars 2021 was held in presence, albeit with a few intimates. It had no presenter, but several stars took turns on stage to award their colleagues: from Renée Zellweger to Joaquin Phoenix to Brad Pitt. Oscar Awards 2021: the revolution of Chloé Zhao and her Nomadland
Nomadland has swept the Oscars 2021 earning the statuette for three major categories. It triumphed as Best Picture and Best Director. The film is directed by Chloé Zhao, a Chinese director who charmed the Academy. She is the second woman to win this award and the first Asian in the history of the Oscars. The announcement was made by director Bong Joon-ho, winner of the previous edition with the film Parasite.
Nomadland also won the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, given to Frances McDormand. This is the third Oscar of her career, after "Fargo" and "Three Manifests in Ebbing, Missouri". The actress in receiving the statuette made an emotional speech from the stage, urging the reopening of theaters.
Oscar 2021: many surprises, returns and firsts
The award for Best Actor in a Leading Role went to Anthony Hopkins for "The Father". The actor had already won the Oscar in 1992 for "The Silence of the Lambs".
In the evening, several awards were also assigned, a bit of a surprise. For example, the award for best supporting actress went to Yuh-Jung Youn who participated in the film "Minari". While Glenn Close who has the record of actress with more Oscar nominations also this year remained without, she has never won one.
The award for best supporting actor instead was earned by Daniel Kaluuya who played Fred Hampton for "Judas and the Black Messiah". Infine, “Mank", che aveva ottenuto ben 10 nomination, ha avuto solo due premi, quello per la miglior scenografia e per la miglior sceneggiatura.
Insomma, è stata una serata davvero intensa e ricca di sorprese. L’Italia non ha portato a casa nessun premio, nonostante diverse nomination, tra cui quella a Laura Pausini per la migliore canzone originale "Io sì" che fa parte della colonna sonora del film La vita davanti a sé.
