Sales sites on tilt, online speculators, treacherous influencers and armed vigilantes: those who want to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X are ready to do anything and everything
That the demand for PS5 and Xbox Series X was abundantly higher than the supply of specimens initially available on the market was imaginable even before the launch of the two next-gen consoles. And, in fact, it was just like that: the consoles are not to be found, users send the Web sites of electronics chains into a tizzy and, now, they even use firearms in order to get their hands on a sample.
We are not telling tales, but facts that really happened and were reported on Twitter by the police of Toronto, in Canada, who warned everyone on Twitter: be careful who you sell consoles to, they might be armed. Un vero e proprio assalto alla diligenza, quindi, solo che non siamo su Red Dead Redemption 2 ma nella vita reale e si rischia la pelle per una console. Nella migliore delle ipotesi, invece, si rischia una mezza truffa perché le console 2020 di Sony e Microsoft sono spesso vendute online a prezzi esorbitanti dai pochissimi che sono riusciti a comprarne una. Tra di essi c’è persino un influencer, che ha palesemente violato l’accordo con Sony e ha messo in vendita la PS5 ricevuta in prova. Insomma, PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X stanno causando un vero e proprio delirio collettivo.
PS5 e Xbox Series X: il tweet della polizia di Toronto
Partiamo dall’episodio che ha fatto più scalpore di tutti: il tweet della Polizia di Toronto. Il Police Department canadese ha emesso su Twitter un “Public Safety Alert“, cioè un allarme pubblico, per comunicare che:
-Le persone stanno vendendo le console online
-Abbiamo ricevuto diverse denunce per rapina
-Alcune repine sono state effettuate con armi da fuoco o violenza
Per questo la polizia di Toronto chiede a chi vende le console online di scegliere accuratamente i luoghi per la consegna e di avvisare sempre qualcuno quando si va a fare lo scambio. Secondo alcune ricostruzioni, però, almeno una delle rapine a mano armata sarebbero state effettuate da una sorta di “giustiziere" che era andato a punire chi lucrava eccessivamente vendendo PS5 e Xbox Series X a pressi assurdi.
PS5 e Xbox Series X: a quanto si vendono online
Entrambe le console next-gen hanno un prezzo ufficiale, identico, di 499 euro ma chi ne ha una quasi sempre la vende online a molto di più: in questo momento è in vendita, in Francia, una PlayStation 5 Standard Edition a 15.000 euro (più 20 euro di spedizione), ma nessuno ha fatto ancora una offerta. There is instead someone who has made a purchase offer for a PS5 at 4,200 euros.
More "honest" instead are the sale prices for Xbox Series X, which gets purchase offers for about 700-800 euros, i.e. twice the real value of the console. Many offers still concern pre-orders, that is consoles that the seller doesn't even have in hand and we don't know when they will arrive.
The influencer who resells the PS5 on trial
There is then the most absurd case of all, that of the English influencer James Taylor who received a PS5 from Sony for free to try it and then resold it. Taylor always said he didn't like the PS5 and preferred the old PS4, so Sony decided to send him one to try to convince him to change his mind.
But things went just the opposite with the influencer who, despite the clause that bound him not to sell the PlayStation 5 after accepting it, put it on sale earning £1,200.
