Elon Musk, NASA and a young Russian actress are expected to be involved. All in orbit to shoot a movie, all in the same month.
Tom Cruise will shoot a space movie. In the same month, the Russians will be doing the same thing, resulting in a crowded crew and camera equipment on the set of the ISS (the international space station). Already this above sounds like the plot of a movie, but it's reality.
Why everyone wants to shoot a movie in space, what does NASA and Elon Musk have to do with it
The intention to launch the face of Mission Impossible into space had been confirmed in May last year. NASA and (unsurprisingly) Elon Musk are also involved in the project. The choice of director has instead fallen on Doug Liman, author of The Bourne Identity, film-capostipite of a successful franchise, and The Edge of Tomorrow, in which the leading actor is just Cruise. Accompanying both on the International Space Station is astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria. The launch is scheduled for October 2021.
Evidently the news has also reached the Russians, who have heard the fanfare of the Cold War and did not back down. On the other hand, if we wanted to read between the lines of the timing of Moscow's project, the intention to beat the Americans on time seems evident. The announcement of the rival production came right after the news of the Cruise-Liman tandem, also during last summer; the launch instead is scheduled for October 2021, and, more precisely, at the beginning of October, so as to anticipate the Americans by a few days.

But on the ISS the Russians will bring us a woman. She is Yulia Peresild, selected from all those who responded to the ad to find an actress between 20 and 40 years old, of Russian nationality, weighing between 50 and 70 pounds and a chest circumference of at least 112 cm.
"NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a movie aboard the Space Station," tweeted Jim Bridenstine, administrator of the U.S. space agency. "We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make NASA's ambitious plans a reality. Among the responses to the May 5 post was one from Musk (his plans for a truly sui generis moon landing here): "It should be a lot of fun!" was the comment about the super billionaire.
For now, Tom Cruise has also landed on Tik Tok. But it turns out he didn't know anything about it.
