Safer Internet Day is a day dedicated to the relationship between young people and the Net. In Italy, events are organized to teach the healthy use of the Net
The second day of the second week of February is dedicated to Safer Internet Day. This is an annual event dedicated to promote a safer surfing on the Net, especially by the younger generations, the most exposed to problems such as cyberbullying, gambling, child pornography, online grooming, sexting and Internet addiction.
The first Safer Internet Day was organized in 2004 with the support of the European Commission and in fourteen years has crossed European borders to involve more than 100 countries. Among these 100 countries there is also Italy, which entrusts the organization of the Safer Internet Day to Generazioni Connesse, a project managed by a consortium of bodies and organizations that includes the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Authority for Childhood and Adolescence, the Postal and Communications Police, Save the Children Italy, Telefono Azzurro, the Cooperative E.D.I., La Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Florence, the website Skuola.net and the Movimento Difesa del Cittadino.
Every year events and conferences are organized around Italy in which schools and children are the protagonists. The aim is to promote a conscious use of the Net, in a historical period where teenagers spend most of their time on the Internet.
Safer Internet Day 2018, the events of the day
"Create, Connect and Share Respect. A better internet starts with you" is the slogan chosen for Safer Internet Day 2018 (February 6, 2018) and is aimed at getting kids to think not only about the conscious use of the Internet, but also about the active and responsible role that each of us has to make the Internet a safe place. With the ever-increasing diffusion of mobile devices, especially in the younger segment of the population, it is necessary for every teenager to learn about the dangers of the Net and do everything possible to avoid making mistakes.
All over Italy, conferences and events are organized with leading experts in the field, police officers, carabinieri and with school children in the area. The main event will be at the Brancaccio Theatre in Rome and will be attended by the Minister of Education Fedeli and about 500 young people, as well as companies, associations and organizations that are part of the Generazioni Connesse project.
Oltre al Safer Internet Day, il 6 febbraio sarà anche la Giornata Nazionale Contro il Bullismo e il Cyberbullismo a Scuola, un progetto portato avanti dalla scuola primaria e dagli istituti secondari per aiutare gli adolescenti a capire il problema del cyberbullismo, una piaga sociale che ogni anno conta numerose vittime.
I consigli per navigare su Internet in sicurezza
Per gli adolescenti Internet è come un mare pieno di squali, pronti ad approfittare della minima disattenzione e del minimo errore. Formare i ragazzi sui pericoli della Rete permette di prevenire da possibili gesti estremi. Sono tanti le insidie nascoste nel web: il cyberbullismo, il gioco d’azzardo, la pedo-pornografia, l’adescamento online, il sexting, i videogiochi online e la dipendenza da Internet. In alcuni casi si tratta di vere e proprie malattie (il gioco d’azzardo ad esempio è una ludopatia) che possono rovinare la vita dei ragazzi. Ecco alcuni consigli per difendersi dai pericoli della Rete.
- Non diffondere i propri dati personali. Le informazioni che riguardano la città dove si vive, l’indirizzo di casa o la scuola che si frequenta sono molto importanti, e non devono essere mai rivelate online. Soprattutto se stiamo parlando con persone che non conosciamo e che potrebbero farne un utilizzo sbagliato
- Attenzione al gioco d’azzardo. Le scommesse e il poker online sono una vera e propria malattia. Nonostante sia necessario avere almeno 18 anni per poter iscriversi a un sito di scommesse o di poker, molti adolescenti riescono comunque a giocare, utilizzando i soldi dei propri genitori. Non si tratta di un gioco, le scommesse e il poker possono portare alla rovina e diventano una dipendenza di cui non si può fare a meno. Non credete a chi vi dice che si possono vincere facilmente dei soldi.
- Non inviare foto osé. Da giovani molto spesso non si pensa a cosa si sta facendo e può capitare di inviare a un proprio amico un’immagine "piccante". Prima di fare una cosa del genere pensate a cosa può accadere in futuro. Questo vostro "amico" potrebbe anche decidere di pubblicare la foto online. O peggio ancora pubblicarla su un sito per adulti. Inoltre, se una persona che non conoscete vi chiede immagini osé, dovete dirlo immediatamente ai vostri genitori
- Denunciate. Se siete vittime di cyberbullismo o qualcuno minaccia di pubblicare vostre immagini nude, denunciate immediatamente alla polizia postale. E parlatene coni vostri genitori. Non abbiate timore!
