Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3's passage from Chinese certification bodies has revealed a few features, while pricing details arrive
No Galaxy Note this year. Samsung has decided to devote efforts, energies and resources to the range of foldable smartphones and in the coming weeks will arrive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, but not to leave with a fistful of fist the lovers of the Note series the company has decided to donate to the third generation Fold the support for the S Pen of the Note.
In recent hours Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has received the certifications of TENAA and MIIT, Chinese institutions that as is usually the case have registered and made public some specifications of the foldable top of the range. Interweaving this information with others that have come in recent days, we can outline a first picture of semi-official specifications of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, a product whose launch is still lacking. It will be presented along with Galaxy Z Flip 3 next month during the Galaxy Unpacked event, which Samsung has so far intended for the presentation of the Galaxy Note range and a few other gadgets but from which this year will not come out any new Galaxy Note.
The specifications of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
In the same way as the previous generations Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have two displays, one, external, visible when the phone is closed, the other of larger size when the smartphone is opened "folding". The certification bodies have provided some numbers: the smaller screen, external, will have a diagonal of 6.2 inches, while the larger one, perfect for multimedia content or to work using the phone as a tablet, is 7.5 inches.
The other information filtered by the certification bodies concern the chip that in the Chinese variant will be the Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, octa core 2.84 GHz, and the battery of 4,500 mAh, then the same capacity as that currently included on Galaxy Z Fold 2. The Chinese variant should not differ significantly from the one sold elsewhere, so those who expected a larger battery size and therefore able to ensure a better autonomy could be seriously disappointed.
Relatively popular prices for Galaxy Z Fold 3
Another aspect very expensive (in every sense) for fans is that which concerns the price, inevitably high for an object like a foldable smartphone that despite not being a recent innovation is still cutting edge, looking at the sales numbers. Foldables were and probably will remain for some time niche products that require great efforts in engineering, special materials and careful manufacturing processes.
However, while remaining very expensive products in absolute terms, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 could even be cheap compared to their predecessors. It has long been rumored that Samsung has gone all out in the past months to lower the retail price of its foldables, and no rumors have ever come to deny this intention. Not even the latest, relaunched by Sammobile, which confirms what now seems certain: the two foldable Samsung will be cheaper than its predecessors.
According to the latest information, the price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 should fall in the price range between $ 1,655 and $ 1,741, Galaxy Z Flip 3 between $ 1,045 and $ 1,110, when the predecessors cost list respectively $ 1,999 and $ 1,380. With a lower price Samsung could push more enthusiasts to buy a foldable, and by increasing sales volumes economies of scale would grow, triggering a cycle that would lead to the next foldables costing less and less.
