Samsung S8 here’s how it will be: edge-to-edge screen and Snapdragon 835

After the launch of the video with the announcement of the presentation date, the first official images of the Samsung S8 also arrive: the screen will be edge-to-edge

Although officially not presented, the Samsung Galaxy S8 was one of the protagonists of the Mobile Wolrd Congress 2017 in Barcelona, the annual fair dedicated to the world of smartphones, wearables and Internet of Things devices.

As announced by now a couple of months, Samsung did not bring in the Catalan city its highly anticipated top of the range, but only showed a short video in which is given an appointment to March 29, the day of the presentation of the Samsung S8, with an ad hoc event organized in New York. Although the duration of the movie is only a few seconds, the South Korean company has shown a stylized image of how the smartphone will be made: the screen will occupy most of the front, the display will be edge-to-edge, while the home button has been eliminated (in the photo gallery above, the first images from the real Samsung Galaxy S8).

The first "real" images of the Samsung S8 and Samsung S8 Plus

After the video presentation, the first images of the Samsung Galaxy S8 have appeared on some foreign online sites. Compared to the renderings of the past days and the photos stolen by some insiders, the news are really few. The device will be launched in two different versions: the Samsung S8 will have a 5.8-inch curved screen, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will mount a 6.2-inch edge-to-edge display. The monstrous size of the panels will not affect the size of the device: Samsung has completely redesigned its top of the range, increasing the percentage of space occupied by the screen (the body rate will be more than 80%), following in part the groove traced a few months ago by the Xiaomi Mi Mix.

With the official images, also came the confirmations on the hardware compartment of the two smartphones: the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will be identical, the only difference will be in the size of the screen. The two top of the range will mount the SoC Snapdragon 835 (but only in the United States, in Europe will come out with an Exynos chipset very similar to the Qualcomm processor), supported by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory expandable up to 2TB. The photo compartment consists of a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera that will also support facial recognition. In recent hours has appeared a screen with the results obtained by allegedly a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus on the benchmarking platform GeekBench. The device mounts a Snapdragon 835 and the performance is similar compared to other devices using the same chipset.

Date of presentation and price

As announced during the panel organized at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be presented on March 29 at an event in New York, while for the market launch will have to wait until April 21. According to the latest rumors, the price of the smartphone should range between 800 and 1000 euros, depending on the version purchased.
