Samsung’s new chip promises sparks with video games

The next chip from Samsung, the Exynos 2200, has been spotted on the net once again: as happened on other occasions, it shows how powerful it is once again

The next chip for smartphones and tablets from Samsung has been "spotted" on the net several times, and also in the past has given little evidence of its power. Especially in terms of graphics, since Samsung has decided to "hire" the professionals from AMD to offer the best to its customers who love video games.

The Exynos 2200 is equipped with a graphics section (GPU) developed in collaboration with AMD, one of the most prestigious names in terms of graphics cards in the entire technological landscape. The GPU is based on the same RDNA2 architecture that is used for the GPUs - far more powerful - of gaming consoles and computers, so it's not surprising that the latest rumors indicate it as being extremely powerful. We'll have to see if all this power will have any repercussions. Have compromises been made on the CPU to benefit the GPU, perhaps to prevent it from heating up excessively during use? And most importantly, will Samsung be able to produce enough units of such a refined chip in the midst of the chip crisis?

Exynos 2200 vs Snapdragon 888

The most interesting aspect of the Exynos 2200 will certainly be the GPU, in other words the graphics processor. That promises sparks with video games. In the latest tests finished on the net in fact the GPU of Exynos has proved more powerful than that of the reference chip, the "standard" current, ie Snapdragon 888.

The rumors have found a "big difference" in terms of graphics performance in tests performed on the 3D Mark platform with the video game Wild Life. Unfortunately, no numerical values have been shared that would allow us to fully appreciate the step change that will come with Samsung's next best chip, but the fact that it's called "big" is an important clue that it will offer top-notch performance to gaming enthusiasts.

It will be much better than its predecessor

The benchmarks cited by the rumors would be "official" and also report percentage differences between the next Exynos, the 2200, and the current Exynos 2100 that powers all of Samsung's top-of-the-line chips made official in 2021, starting with the Galaxy S21 and ending with the recently folded Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. The current best chip of the South Korean company is already a "beast" in terms of performance in video games, but the successor promises to do better.

Much better: we speak of an increase between 17 and 20% in terms of stability and between 31 and 34% in terms of peak graphics power. Values able to amaze even the most seasoned among the insiders, accustomed to the daily evolutions of technology, but who is hardly faced with improvements of this magnitude from one generation to another. We can only hope that percentages indicated by the rumor prove true.

The Exynos 2200 will debut "on the field" in the first part of 2022, when it will equip the Galaxy S22, but we should know in detail before: it is said that Samsung may present it to the world by the end of November.
