Sexual blackmail via email is back, the police alarm

The Postal Police has discovered a new cyber scam with a sexual background that is endangering several Italian users, here's how to defend ourselves

The Postal Police has discovered a new cyber threat that is affecting many Italian users. It is a sexual blackmail that aims to scam people into paying a sum of money through an email threat.

Through the Facebook Una vita da Social page, the Postal Police has let Italian users know that an email phishing campaign is underway that blackmails people into paying a sum of money. Basically, the cybercriminal contacts his victim via email and informs him that in these days he has hacked his computer. The hacker informs the user that he has spied on him while he was surfing online and that he has filmed him using the computer's camera while he was surfing on adult websites. At this point the hacker threatens to share our history and sex videos with all our contacts if we don't pay the required 259 euros in Bitcoin. Of course, it's a fake hack, he doesn't have any data about us, he just wants our money.

How to defend yourself against sex scams on the Net

These kinds of sex scams on the Net are constantly growing. Hackers take advantage of the fact that no one would want to make their history public if they happened to access an adult-only site. But don't worry, when you receive an email like this, you haven't actually suffered a cyber attack. The cyber criminals simply want to scare us and exploit our nervousness to get us to pay the small amount of money they are asking for. What we have to do is not to fall into the trap even if they tell us that there are only a few hours left before the disclosure of data and photos with our friends and relatives. If we receive an email with this kind of blackmail with a sexual background we immediately report the incident to the Postal Police and we trash the message without fear. To improve our security we can also update the password of the e-mail address and constantly update our antivirus that could recognize the latest phishing threats.
