Sony: three new smartphones coming to CES 2019

On January 7, Sony is expected to unveil three new mid-range smartphones at CES 2019 in Las Vegas: Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Ultra and Xperia L3. The characteristics

There will be three new smartphones that Sony will present at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, scheduled from January 7 to 11, 2019: Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Ultra and Xperia L3. The company has not officially announced their presentation at the American electronics fair, but it is very likely that it will do so and all industry analysts take it for granted because Sony has long used precisely CES to unveil its entry-level and mid-range phones to the public. At CES 2018, for example, Sony had presented Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2.

The wait for these Sony smartphones is high: already in October 2018 they were announced by the Japanese company and in the same days leaked some renderings from which it seems that these devices will not have the notch, now so fashionable, but very thin bezels with the camera lens positioned outside the display. But what will be the technical characteristics of the next Sony phones? Here they are, according to the latest rumors.

Sony Xperia XA3 and Xperia XA3 Ultra: technical specifications

The Xperia XA3 and Xperia XA3 Ultra smartphones will have Android 9 Pie as standard and will feature a fingerprint scanner (side-mounted) and dual rear cameras. The Xperia XA3 is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The display will most likely be 5.9 inches, with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. The Sony Xperia XA3 Ultra, on the other hand, will feature a 6.5-inch screen, also 18:9 and again with 1080×2160 resolution, thus with less PPI than its younger brother. Both Sony smartphones will be compatible with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band and Bluetooth 5.0.

Sony Xperia L3: technical specifications

Turning to rumors about the technical specifications of the Xperia L3, however, it would seem that the next entry-level smartphone from Sony will feature a 5.7-inch display with 720×1440 pixel resolution and 18:9 ratio. The processor will be Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 SoC while the battery might have a capacity of 3,400 mAh. Dual rear cameras (13 MP and 5 MP) and compatibility with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC will also be present on this model. There will also be a USB Type-C port and the fingerprint sensor.

Sony Xperia XA3 Plus: when will it arrive?

For some time it has been speculated that Sony may also present, also at CES 2019, the Xperia XA3 Plus smartphone, about which little is still known (it should have a 6-inch screen, with 1080×2160 resolution). This device should replace the Xperia XA2 Plus, which, however, last year was not presented at CES but a few months later: in July 2018. That's why according to many analysts it is unlikely that the Xperia XA3 Plus, which should have the not inconsiderable cost of about 519 euros, will be presented by Sony in Las Vegas in a few days.
