Entro fine anno potrebbero arrivare decine di nuove emoji, tra le quali anche l’uomo incinto e la persona incinta. Quest’ultima non rappresenta chiaramente una donna, ma neanche un uomo. Both will be added to the already existing pregnant woman emoji, provided they are approved by Unicode on September 14.

Every year, in fact, Unicode adds new emoji to the very long list of those already present and assigns a code to them. It's the technical prerequisite so that those who develop chat apps, such as Messenger, WhatsApp and all the other most popular ones, can then include such smilies among those available. The approval and release of the new Unicode 14.0 emoji was delayed due to the pandemic, but now it's time to update the list of smilies with new emoji of all kinds. At the moment, the new features are all candidates and not approved, including pregnant man, and it will be known in September whether or not they will be part of those available in the future.

The two pregnant emoji and the one with the crown

Today everyone can already use the pregnant woman emoji, which does not need much explanation: it is used to communicate that a woman is expecting a baby. The two emoji of the pregnant man and person, on the other hand, are new and "acknowledge that pregnancy is possible for some transgender men and non-binary people."

But while the first depicts a person who is apparently a man (he has a mustache), the second does not: it can look like a he, as well as a she. Both, however, touch their bellies.

In the same direction of inclusivity of non-binary people, the emoji of the person with the crown has also been proposed. Same reasoning as before: it's not necessarily a he, nor a she, and it's in addition to the prince and princess with the crown.

These three emoji, as it has been happening for a long time with all the faces depicting people, are proposed with various shades of complexion and hair colors.

The other candidate emoji

In addition to these three there are also other emoji under consideration by Unicode, which will decide whether to include or discard them in September. For example, the emoji of the hand with crossed thumb and index finger, which can be understood either in the Italian (pay) or Korean (a small heart) style. This emoji is also proposed in different ethnic variants.

There is also the emoji of the piece of coral, which reminds everyone that coral reefs are threatened by global warming, nor finally the hand of Fatima, an amulet typical of Muslim and Jewish religions.
