The year 2020 will be a year full of TV series, including new titles and expected returns. The novelties concern all the most popular platforms, such as Netflix, Prime Video, Plex, Now TV and others. Not to mention that with the arrival of Apple TV+ and Disney+ the market will become even more interesting. But what will be the most important TV series of the next 12 months?
We start with the fifth season of Better Call Saul and, above all, the fourth season of Stranger Things, one of the most loved TV series by the Netflix audience, and not only. Also the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino returns with the sequel "The New Pope" in January on Sky Atlantic, and already from the trailer you can recognize the greatness of the two protagonists, Jude Law and John Malkovich. Finally, for lovers of irreverent series, makes his return on the small screen BoJack Horseman. In addition to these long-awaited returns, there will be many new titles that will make us dream, excite or cry while we relax on the couch.
TV series coming in January and February
We start with one of the most beloved actors of the TV series audience: Hugh Laurie, known to the general public for having given face and voice to Dr. House. He will act in Avenue, a series produced by HBO that will be launched on January 19. We do not know when it will arrive in Italy, because there is little news about it. Star Trek: Picard, a new series dedicated to the world of Star Trek, will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on January 24. Some familiar faces from the series return, such as Brent Spiner as the droid Data.
In February, instead, Locke and Key, a mystery series based on the graphic novel of the same name, is expected on Netflix. It tells the story of three brothers who, after the murder of their father, move into an old family home, the so-called Keyhouse. Here they find a series of mysterious keys that will help them understand why their father died. The Outsider will be broadcast by Sky Atlantic and is inspired by the novel by Stephen King.
We end the roundup of titles related to the first months of the year with an exceptional name: Al Pacino will star in an original Amazon TV series titled Hunters. There will be a lot of action, but also hilarious jokes, which will keep users glued to the screen.
Coming TV series: spring 2020
With spring comes not only flowers, but also TV series. Let's start with The Plot Against America, a series produced by HBO and inspired by Philip Roth's novel. It tells of a parallel past: what would have happened if in the 1940s the pro-Nazi aviator Charles Lindbergh had won the presidential election? It is not yet known on which platform it will be made available in Italy.
There will also be the return of The Walking Dead: World Beyond. It tells the story of the protagonists 10 years after the zombie apocalypse and how people will react in front of the new events, in an apocalyptic and devastating climate.
As far as the second half of the year is concerned, there are few certainties: there are many titles waiting, but many are to be confirmed. In fact, we are sure that interesting TV series will be broadcasted abroad, but we still don't know if and when they will arrive in Italy. For the moment, we just have to wait and enjoy the series that will accompany us in the first months of 2020.
