The Witcher 2, the release of the TV series could be delayed

The highly anticipated second season about Geralt of Rivia could arrive in 2021 but already there are many anticipations

After the success of the first episodes, The Witcher is preparing to return on Netflix with the second season. We are talking about the revelation TV series of 2019 that has glued many viewers to the screen and that many have compared to The Iron Throne. The anticipation was given by the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich in a post on Twitter, however, there could be delays in filming.

The blame lies with the pandemic that has been unleashed in the early months of 2020. According to rumors, despite the fact that some scenes are already finished, the crew has been halted for a few months and getting the logistical machine up and running again will take a long time. According to the Redanian Intelligence platform, which usually reports reliable news, the filming will take until 2021 and then the second season could be released in more than a year.

The Witcher: is the second season delayed?

The Witcher TV series is inspired by the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and stars actor Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Surely we will see him again in the second season and we will better understand his story. Together with him there will also be Freya Allen, who instead plays Ciri, princess of Cintra, persecuted by Nilfgaard.

Around the TV series there is, however, an aura of mystery, what concerns the timing of filming. Production is expected to wrap in February 2021 however not much is known about the plot and settings.

Before the Coronavirus spread, the production only managed to work for five weeks and that's a very limited amount of time if we take into account that the entire production process would take around 8 months. Originally the second season was supposed to be shot from February to August 2020, however the pandemic has changed the tables and lengthened the timeframe by a lot. Not to mention that when you return to the set you have to activate preventive measures, which will take additional time. In short, the most important aspect is to protect the health of cast and production. According to the previews, we will be able to see The Witcher 2 in the middle of 2021.

The Witcher 2: what will it be about?

Despite the delay in filming, there are many anticipations related to the second season of The Witcher. It will probably focus on the couple composed by Geralt and Ciri, who will be joined by Vesemir, played by Kim Bodnia. The character will play a key role in the new episodes, he will be one of the last representatives of the golden age of the witcher.

He survived the massacre of Kaer Morjen, where many witcher families were exterminated and is therefore very protective of Geralt and the other survivors. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich welcomed Kim Bodnia with very positive words: "I appreciated her unique talent and I can't wait for her to bring her strength, tenacity and warmth to the character of Vesemir, who will be a key part of the next season."
