Joe Blake is a Nazi spy living in New York who decides to follow a lead on members of the resistance through the film, which takes him all the way to Cañon City, near the Rocky Mountains. Invece Juliana Crain, ispirata dall’assassinio della sorella per mano della polizia giapponese, decide di scoprire la verità e recarsi nella Zona Neutrale dopo aver trovato una copia del film.
Nello stesso momento, la serie The Man in the High Castle segue le vicende di Nobusuke Tagomi, il ministro del commercio giapponese, che discute con l’ufficiale nazista Rudolph Wegener sul futuro della politica tedesca e giapponese. Difatti Adolf Hitler è anziano e al centro della discussione c’è la scelta del suo successore, fondamentale per continuare con la collaborazione tra gli Stati (già precaria a causa della poca fiducia da parte del Giappone nella Germania e del possesso della bomba atomica).

The Man in the High Castle book is a uchronic novel, whose title in Italian is "The Swastika on the Sun." The author, Philip K. Dick, won the Hugo Award for best novel in 1963. The success of this novel lies in reversing the outcome of the events of the past and creating a whole new science fiction world.
Philip K. Dick claims to have been inspired by the book "Fatal Anniversary" by Ward Moore, in which American history was represented as if the Confederate States of America had won the Civil War. Instead, the work also taken up by the TV series "The Man in the High Castle" and present in The Swastika on the Sun, namely "The grasshopper shall rise no more", refers to a verse in the Bible, "the locust shall drag with difficulty" (Ecclesiastes, 12:5).

For example, in the series there are several flashbacks that tell the events of the past, while in the novel the Nazi madness is depicted in a more extreme way.
