WhatsApp, how to transfer chats from Android to iOS

We just bought a new smartphone switching from an iPhone to an Android, or vice versa, so here's how to recover our WhatsApp chats

In every person's life there are some important transitions: marriage, a new job or switching smartphones from Android to iPhone or vice versa. Given how much time we spend with our phone switching from robot to apple can be a major upheaval. And what happens in case to our WhatsApp chats?

If we have recently changed our smartphone, buying an iPhone X or switching from Apple to one of the various Android manufacturers we will have a small problem: transferring data from a backup to the new device. Luckily, however, if we want to recover chats WhatsApp saved with a backup on Android or iOS operating system we won't have any particular problems. Of course, this is not an easy task, since on the two operating systems the instant messaging platform uses different storage tools: WhatsApp chats on the iPhone are stored on iCloud on the iPhone, WhatsApp backup chats on Android are stored on Google Drive on Android. In order to do that, we will have to download third-party applications. So here's in detail how to transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iOS and vice versa.

Transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iPhone

We have just bought an iPhone X and abandoned our old Android smartphone forever. How to do in this case not to lose our most important conversations on WhatsApp? Doing the migration of data saved on Android to Apple operating system, as far as WhatsApp chats are concerned, is not cheap. To achieve this we'll have to download a program for Windows or Mac computers, called BackupTrans, which costs more than 30 euros. It should be said that there is also a free trial version that only allows the migration of a limited number of chats. We'll only be able to use it to save the most important chats, losing those that interest us less. To start transferring WhatsApp chats to our new iPhone we must have iTunes installed on the computer. We must then enable USB debugging on the old Android device. At this point we launch the BackupTrans app on the PC and connect both the old Android and the new iPhone to the USB ports on the computer. At this point through the BackupTrans application we will begin to save WhatsApp conversations in a chronological manner on the PC. Once this process is complete we will have to go to the settings that are at the top of the BackupTrans program and click on "Transfer messages from Android to iPhone". When the process is complete we will have our WhatsApp chats on the new iPhone.

Transfer WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android

Transferring WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to a new Android smartphone is much cheaper. All we have to do is go to the Google Play Store and download the application WazzapMigrator. As you can guess from the name, this is an app designed specifically to transfer WhatsApp chats between the two most popular operating systems in the mobile world. WazzapMigrator  costs 4.99 euros on the Play Store. At this point we go to iTunes and retrieve the last file containing the backup of our WhatsApp chats, which has the name "ChatStorage.sqlite". If we do not find this file we perform a new backup from our old iPhone. To be able to transfer the file it is important that it is not encrypted, so we remove this protection from our backup. To do this, just leave the option unchecked in iTunes. At this point we connect the smartphone to the PC where we have installed iTunes and through file explorer we transfer ChatStorage.sqlite to the WazzapMigrator folder on the Android device. After that we disconnect the phone and open the WazzapMigrator app and follow the wizard. The same process can also be done for the media sent and received on the famous messaging app.
