Windows 10, new problems with the update: what’s happening

Many users report problems after the latest update: microphone, webcam and USB ports stop working. How to fix the problem

Last week Microsoft released the Patch Tuesday update, a monthly update dedicated to operating system security. It usually fixes problems regarding bugs and vulnerabilities that could put users' data at risk if they were used by hackers. That's why this is a very important and eagerly awaited update for all users.

The latest Patch Tuesday update released on April 16, however, has some issues. Unfortunately, this is nothing new: in recent months, updates released by Microsoft fix some bugs, but create new ones. And it happened this time as well. The website wincentral.com is the first to report that it has collected comments from many users who have had problems with the installation of the update KB4549951 (codename of the update). Files deleted from the hard disk, microphones, webcams and USB ports that have stopped working and antivirus that does not activate are just some of the malfunctions recorded by users.

Update Patch Tuesday April 2020 Windows 10: problems for users

Not one, not two, not three, but there are at least half a dozen different problems that users have encountered during the installation of the update KB4549951, codenamed the Patch Tuesday of April 2020.

Wincentral.com has collected a couple of comments from users who have experienced problems and they give a perfect understanding of what is happening.

It starts with error code 0x800f081f, which does not allow the installation of the latest Windows 10 update. The user downloads the update to their computer, but when they run the update, an error message appears telling them that they cannot continue with the installation. This means that users cannot install the patches that secure the PC from hacker attack.

Other users report, however, other error codes: 0x800f0985, 0x800f0900, 0x80073712. What do they correspond to? To some pretty serious problems: after installing the April 2020 Patch Tuesday, the PC's microphone, webcam and USB ports do not work. These are three crucial components for a computer, especially in this period when millions of people work in smart working mode and use them for video conferences and business meetings.

The problems didn't end there. Other reports add new malfunctions: after installing the update, some files disappear from the hard drive, as if they had been deleted automatically; Windows Defender, the antivirus built into Windows 10, stops working and you can't activate it.

As you can understand, these are quite serious problems and Microsoft is already trying to fix them.
