WWDC 2017, what to expect from Apple’s June 5 conference

Apple will present several software-level updates at the developer conference, but there could be some surprises, such as the iPad Pro 2

At the Worldwide Developers Conference (an annual conference that the Cupertino-based company organizes for developers) to be held from Monday, June 5 until Friday, June 9, Apple is ready to present several interesting news. Usually WWDC is the occasion for Cupertino to show updates at the operating system level, but this year we can expect more.

According to the first rumors Apple should show the world the latest updates of iOS. But there will be important news for Apple Watch, Apple TV and macOS as well. At the hardware level, many talk about the possibility of seeing on the U.S. stage a new iPad Pro, while sources close to Cupertino emphasize the proximity of an update of the MacBook range. It is very likely that to the latter will be added special features of Siri, the famous personal assistant from Apple. But let's see in detail what to expect from Cupertino at WWDC 2017.

Time and streaming WWDC 2017

The event will be held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. For those who want to follow the live presentation via the Internet (on the event site and Apple's website), the alarm clock should be set to 5 p.m. Italian time on Monday. If you have Siri in your smartphone or iPad just tell the AI "mark the beginning of WWDC 2017" and the assistant will alert you at the right time.

iOS 11

As mentioned, WWDC is an event designed more for news related to Apple's operating systems. Therefore, one of the main news we will see is the presentation of the new iOS 11 operating system. This update will mainly concern Siri. For many, the voice of Apple's personal assistant could also change, even if only slightly and only to make it more natural. AI to which machine learning will be applied, to be more precise and perform better. Many are also waiting for the night mode.

MacOS 10.13 and WatchOS 4

We know very little for now of the update of macOS planned by Apple. The most persistent rumors concern the name, it could be Malibu, Mojave or another place that begins with M. Expected instead the update for the operating system of WatchOS 4. According to sources close to the company, the update should integrate control plans and training with other sports, such as skiing and snowboarding. Watch out then for the novelty of blood glucose monitoring. Of which we have already spoken, and that would help, and not a little, diabetic users.

iPad Pro

The new tablet is the backbone of the Apple event in California. Definitely the most awaited novelty by fans. It should be the iPad Pro 2. A tablet with a 10.5-inch screen. According to several sources Cupertino has already produced, since last March, about 500 thousand units of the new iPad, which will present and then put on the market soon.

Siri Speaker

Not only news at the level of smartphones and tablets for Siri. Cupertino's artificial intelligence is about to undergo a real revolution. The company is expected to launch a standalone speaker with Siri soon - it's not certain if the chosen stage is the WWDC one. Sort of like Amazon's Echo with Alexa. And Cupertino's unstated goal is precisely to beat out competition from Amazon and Google in the field of smart home.

MacBooks

We close with a device that hasn't received too many updates from Apple lately, namely MacBooks. In 2013, Apple used WWDC to introduce the 12-inch MacBook but it has been since April 2016 that this range has not undergone an update. Experts are divided here. For some Cupertino will continue to not update the line while others, surprisingly, expect a new 12-inch MacBook Air with the famous Intel Core Kaby Lake processors.
