After many rumors and indiscretions, the Mi Mix 2S has finally been presented by Xiaomi in China. The smartphone represents an evolution of the device released last year: the Chinese company wanted to update the hardware compartment to make it in step with the times, but also brought software innovations regarding the camera, which now integrates machine learning and helps the user to take always defined images, even when there is little light.
Xiaomi has focused mainly on these two aspects and preferred not to affect the design of the smartphone, which last year had received several international awards. The front camera is still located in the lower right corner, while the bezels have been reduced even more thanks to the use of 7000 aluminum, which has made the smartphone more durable. The edges are slightly curved (the screen has 2.5D glass on both sides) and ensure a more solid grip. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will hit the market in three different versions that differ in the amount of RAM and internal storage. The device will be available initially in China, but it is not excluded that it will also arrive in Italy in the coming months. Xiaomi is about to open in Milan the first official store and on Amazon the previous model can already be purchased.

Being a direct competitor of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, the Mi Mix 2S has the typical features of a top of the range. On board we find the Snapdragon 845 (with artificial intelligence developed by Xiaomi), supported by 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal storage (there are three models available that vary in RAM and storage space). The screen is a 5.99-inch IPS LCD panel with FullHD+ resolution and 18:9 form factor. Compared to the previous model, at the rear we find a dual camera placed vertically, with two 12-megapixel sensors. The main one has a focal aperture of 1.8, while the secondary one is dedicated to 2x optical zoom. The front camera is 5 Megapixels with a focal aperture of 2.0. To improve the quality of images, Xiaomi has developed an artificial intelligence dedicated exclusively to the photographic compartment that helps the user to choose the best shooting modes depending on the light and the environment to be photographed.
The smartphone integrates Bluetooth 5.0 and the chip for NFC technology. The battery is 3400mAh and supports wireless charging (the back is ceramic). The smartphone will come to the market with Android Oreo 8.0 with MIUI 9 graphical interface.
Xiaomi bets on artificial intelligence
With the Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi takes a decisive step forward with regard to the graphics compartment. Until now, the Chinese company's cell phones had never shone in this respect, but thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence within the photographic compartment, the Mi Mix 2S is a candidate to be one of the best cameraphones (on DxOMark the smartphone reached scores similar to the Pixel 2 XL and the Galaxy S9+). Thanks to machine learning, users can take pictures with bokeh effect and animated background, while the white balance is set automatically depending on the available light. Artificial intelligence also brings improvements for photos in the dark, thanks to the new multi-frame noise reduction system: each shot will be the result of many images taken one after the other that are combined together.
The Mi Mix 2S also allows users to instantly translate a document by simply framing it with the smartphone's camera. The system can also be used to convert currencies.
Mi Mix 2S price and release date
The smartphone will be available in China right away, while the arrival in Italy is still uncertain. Users in the Bel Paese who want it will have to buy it directly from Chinese online stores. It could arrive in the coming months in Italy, when Xiaomi will open its official store in Milan. The Mi Mix 2S is available in three different versions: the base model with 6/64GB will be sold at a price of about 420 euros, while for the 6/128GB version will need to shell out about forty euros more. The premium model will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space and will be priced just above 500 Euros (wireless charger will be included). Two colors are available: white and black.
