ZTE Axon 20 5G is confirmed as the first smartphone with an under-display selfie camera: here's what it will look like
The first smartphone with an under-display camera has been waiting for a long time and ZTE has delivered on its promise. Its smartphone ZTE Axon 20 5G will have a 32-megapixel camera right under the screen, despite being a device of medium price range.
In recent months there have been many "candidates" to become the first smartphone with an under-display camera: from Huawei Mate 40 to Samsung Galaxy S30. All expectations, however, have been disillusioned and the two companies have been beaten on time by ZTE. At the beginning of August, the CEO of the company had announced the arrival of a smartphone with this feature by 2021 and now comes the official confirmation: the model ZTE Axon 20 5G uses transparent materials to get excellent photos even from under the screen.

The Chinese smartphone ZTE Axon 20 5G falls among the mid-range devices and will count on a Snapdragon 765G processor, two options of 6 or 8 GB for RAM, and two cuts of internal storage space of 128 GB or 256 GB, with the possibility of expansion through microSD cards. The 6.92-inch OLED screen, on the other hand, will house not only an in-display fingerprint sensor but also a camera right underneath.
ZTE has in fact confirmed that the smartphone is the first with a 32-megapixel selfie camera underneath the display, an achievement made possible by the use of a highly transparent material designed with organic and inorganic films. The camera can then rely on software algorithms that have been optimized to compensate for the impact on the image and its quality. On the other hand, as for the camera on the back, it consists of a multiple configuration with 64-megapixel main sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide secondary, 2-megapixel depth sensor and macro sensors.
ZTE Axon 20 5G, launch date and price
At the moment, ZTE's smartphone is already available for order in China, but it is not clear if it will also be launched on the global market and especially when it will arrive. The price of the ZTE Axon 20 5G starts from 2198 yuan, about 272 euros at the current currency exchange rate.
