Faceblock is the name given to the 24-hour strike (April 11) promoted by a group of citizens to protest against Facebook's use of our data
For April 11, 2018, a 24-hour strike has been announced that will affect an entire company and all the services it offers: Facebook. The initiative was created by a group of citizens on the same social platform to protest the use that Facebook makes of users' personal data.
To give resonance to Faceblock, this is the name of the event, was the Guardian, the newspaper that together with the New York Times led to the discovery of the Cambridge Analytica scandal that affected the data of over 50 million U.S. citizens (and also Italians). The promoters of the event invite users not to use Facebook services for 24 hours, from 00:01 of April 11 until 23:59 of the same day. The strike not only concerns the social platform, but also Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, all services owned by the company of Menlo Park.
What is Faceblock and how it was born
To the cry "Because Facebook can do better", Faceblock is an initiative promoted by a group of U.S. citizens to raise awareness among users about the treatment of their data by the social platform created by Mark Zuckerberg. To participate in Faceblock you will not have to access and use Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp for the entire day of April 11. A strike of twenty-four hours that should send a clear message to Facebook: on people's data do not joke. The group of citizens has created both a page on Facebook and an event where they can confirm their participation. On the website, however, you can make your voice heard by sending a message directly to the Twitter account of Mark Zuckerberg.
Faceblock, because April 11
The choice of the date is not random. On April 11, Mark Zuckerberg will have to testify before the Congress of the United States about the Cambridge Analytica case and the measures taken by his company to protect the data of its users.
Can you not use Facebook and its "derivatives" for 24 hours?
