Difference between notebook and Chromebook?

For work on the go, it's handy if you can fall back on a mobile device. Not only can you choose between different manufacturers, but you can also choose between a notebook and a Chromebook. But in order for you to make a decision, you need to know what the difference actually is.

Notebook and Chromebook: Differences

If you only look at a notebook and a Chromebook visually, then you will hardly see a difference. For that, you have to take a closer look at the inner values of the devices:
  1. Notebooks are manufactured on the basis of Windows operating systems. Meanwhile, you can also purchase variants that are based on Linux. However, these options are rather rare.
  2. A Chromebook is based on software developed by Google specifically for these devices. This software is called Chrome OS.
  3. While Windows updates interrupt the operation, the Chromebook can be used within seven seconds. This is because the updates run automatically in the background.
  4. For the Chromebook, you need a free Google account and you can then use cross-device usage. This makes synchronization with your Android smartphone much easier.
  5. However, the preinstalled programs are all Google Suite elements, which means you do not get the standard you are used to.
  6. A Chromebook is cheaper to buy because less power has been built in, as the user interface is simple.

What speaks against a Chromebook?

Generally, a Chromebook offers many advantages, but you have to feel comfortable with the interface. Especially if you use other user interfaces in everyday life, the interface can irritate you. You also generally get less performance with a Chromebook, which can become a problem with complex applications.
