Enable Dark Mode on Android - how to make it dark

With Android 9.0 Pie, Dark Mode was introduced. Here, all menus and backgrounds in Android are translated into a darker scenery. The advantage is that the eyes do not tire as quickly in a dark environment when using the smartphone for a longer period of time. You can easily activate Dark Mode yourself.

How is Dark Mode activated on Android?

With Android 9.0 introduced a system-wide Dark Mode.

1. Open the "Settings" by tapping on the "gear icon"
2. Select "Display" and then continue to "Advanced" to view the additional display settings.
3. Tap on the "Device Design" option and select "Dark" in the subsequent pop-up.
4. You can also select "Automatic". The smartphone then detects the ambient lighting and automatically switches the design.
5. If you start the energy-saving mode, the dark design is activated by itself.
6. If you want to make the phone bright again, it goes the same way. However, in the last step, you have to choose "Light" instead of "Dark".

In Android 10, there is also a new gesture control, which shows through the gesture bar. This is used, similar to the iPhone 10, to control the cell phone without the home button.
