YouTube app: Enable dark mode on Android and iOS

With the YouTube app you can easily watch your favorite videos on the go and thus pass waiting times. However, the blue light from the phone can be very hard on your eyes, especially in the dark. Therefore, you should know how to enable dark mode to save your resources.

How to enable dark mode

Before you start setting dark mode, make sure you have the latest version of the YouTube app on your mobile device.

1. Open the app and log in with your details. After that, you need to click on your profile picture so that you can edit the settings.
2. Click on the "Settings" tab. If you are using iOS, you can go directly to the fourth step.
3. If you are using Android, then click on "General" now to continue.
4. You will now see several options from which you need to select the "Dark Design" variant. Move the slider to the right to activate the mode.
5. If the switch is highlighted in color, you can see that the dark mode is activated.
6. If you no longer want to use the mode, you just need to move the switch to the left.

Are there any disadvantages?

On YouTube you will find many amateur videos that do not have the best quality. This can become a problem in dark mode, as it can cause further degradation. However, for high quality videos, you don't have to worry about any disadvantages when using dark mode.
