The Forest: Rent a server - how it works

If you want to rent a server for the survival game The Forest for you and your friends, you have several providers to choose from. However, the multiplayer mode can also be used via Steam without the need for an external server and additional costs.

How can I rent a server for The Forest?

If you want to rent a server for The Forest, you and your friends can join it at any time. However, external servers are also not available for free.
  • Servers for The Forest are available from various providers. The currently cheapest provider is Host Unlimited, where the basic package costs 7€ per month.
  • For 10€ per month you get the premium package that also allows the use of mods.
  • Equally popular is the Forest server from Nitrado. On the cheapest server for 8 euros per month, up to eight friends can join at any time. Do you want to play the survival horror game with more players, you also have to reckon with more costs for the server.
  • In the individual package you can rent a The Forest server, which is adapted exactly to your wishes.
  • In addition, the popular Oxide mod is preinstalled on the servers of Nitrado.

Multiplayer even without server

If you rent a server for The Forest, there are monthly costs. For most players, however, the multiplayer features via Steam are perfectly sufficient. One player starts The Forest and hosts the server, the other players simply join via the friends list. This is free, though one player must always host in order for the game to continue. By sending the game save to a friend, you don't always have to be the host yourself if you ever don't have time to play.
