PlayStation 5: The technical data at a glance

The PlayStation 4 goes down in history as the dominant console of its era. Shortly before the release of its successor, a look at its technology is all the more interesting. We have the official specs.

Rapid load times and ray tracing: the PlayStation 5 is a significant upgrade to the PS4.

There is no release date for the PlayStation 5 yet, but at least Sony makes no secret about the technical equipment.

With these technical data, the PlayStation 5 enters the race

The technical framework of the PlayStation 5 is already known:
  • A Ryzen Zen 2 from AMD is used as the CPU. The processor has eight cores (16 threads) with a clock speed of up to 3.5 GHz.
  • The graphics card is also manufactured by AMD. It is supposed to perform 10.3 teraflops and be capable of ray tracing.
  • The working memory consists of 16 GB RAM (GDDR6) with a bandwidth of 448 GB/s.
  • The storage space is 825 GB. The SSD is supposed to be particularly fast. Compared to the PS4, a factor of more than 100 was mentioned. There is also a slot for expansion.
  • The video output theoretically supports 4K at 120 Hz or 8K at 60 Hz.
  • With "Tempest", the PS5 also offers real 3D sound.
  • The console has an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.
Interesting in this context is the look at the data of the Xbox Series X, naturally the big competitor of the PS5. However, experience has shown that technology is not necessarily decisive for victory in the "console war", as factors such as exclusive games play a more important role.
