MILES: Are novice drivers allowed to rent cars? We clarify

MILES is a relatively new name in car sharing, but is currently gaining a lot of popularity. That's partly because the service is very tolerant of novice drivers. We have all the info.

New drivers welcome: Before you do, however, you should read through the conditions.

The accident risk is known to be higher among novice drivers. Car rental companies take this into account and offer special conditions - including MILES.

MILES: Novice drivers are allowed to join right from the start

New drivers who would like to rent a car from MILES should know this info:
  • New drivers are allowed to join MILES without any restrictions. This means that not only the driver's license may be brand new, there is also no minimum age limit. All license holders from 18 are eligible.
  • This is not entirely free, however: MILES charges the so-called Rookie Fee for novice drivers. This fee is 9 euros per month, but is only charged if a MILES car is rented at least once a month.
  • The Rookie Fee is subject to novice drivers only until they have their driver's license for one year.
  • The deductible for self-inflicted accidents is 2,000 euros. Regulär sind es nur 350 Euro für PKWs und 450 Euro bei LKWs.
Die Regeln sind damit ziemlich transparent und erleichtern es Fahranfängern, sich in dem Carsharing-Dienst zurechtzufinden.
