Undervolting the CPU - this is what it does

Undervolting describes a process where the voltage of the CPU is intentionally reduced. While this comes with some benefits, it can also damage your computer's processor. Get an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of undervolting.

Undervolting: this is what the CPU is all about

CPU is the abbreviation for the main processor installed in every PC or laptop. This forms the core of the PC and has the task of performing computing tasks and controlling the computer. Using the binary system, your commands are converted into a calculation by the operating system, forwarded to the CPU and then executed. Since the CPU heats up quickly, it is equipped with its own fan for cooling. If the CPU's load is too high due to too many processes running at the same time, this has a negative impact on the entire system.

CPU: This is why undervolting is used

During the process of undervolting, the supply voltage of the CPU is deliberately lowered. As a result, the CPU heats up more slowly and less energy is consumed. The computer additionally also runs quieter, since the fans are not needed for cooling.
  1. However, undervolting also reduces the CPU's clock rates, which can lead to serious computing errors and a complete crash.
